Q: What are the grits of the Diamond sharpener?

Smith’s Diamond Sharpening Stones feature multiple layers of micron-sized Monocrystalline diamonds that are securely bonded in nickel to a flat metal surface. The sharpening surface has a unique, overlapping hole design that speeds sharpening by collecting and holding the metal filings that ordinarily build up during the sharpening process. This allows the diamond abrasive to remain clean and clear, and enables you to aggressively sharpen your knife or tool edge to razor sharpness. Coarse (Yellow), 325 Grit - Designed for aggressive removal of metal to quickly restore dull edges. Fine (Orange), 750 Grit - Ideal for putting a razor edge on your knives or tools.

Q: Do I need to use any kind of oil or water with this while sharpening?

Smith's has a manual for the DCS4, and it says: "Sharpening Instructions Diamond stones can be used with a sharpening lubricant (water or honing oil) or dry. Smith’s recommends our non-petroleum based Honing Solution for best results. Do not use petroleum based oil as a sharpening lubricant with this stone. Keep fingers behind finger guard during sharpening or injury could occur."

Q: Could I get a Hair popping edge with this sharpener as a very beginner sharpener? if not do you know of any other sharpener out there?

This sharpener is undeniably capable of creating a very sharp edge, if you have the right technique and patience. It's all about your ability to hold the blade at a consistent angle for each stroke. I apparently cannot, so I user a Spyderco Sharpmaker, which I firmly believe is the easiest tool to use for the money.

The handle and frame is black. The stone is dotted yellow. No color options to choose from
