This is probably one of the most important books to read for this age that we live in
The explanation of the workings of the brain, especially in relation to dopamine was very well written and easy to understand. This book is a call to return to a less complicated and less stimulating life. Whether individually or on a societal level this is a wake up call to take control of our lives and not let our chasing of things that give us a Dopamine rush to get the better of us.

Inclusive and encouraging
I could see her respect to people who struggleed and went through addiction. She said that her patients are her heroes. Through reading this book, I felt that I am whole. Respect heals us. I appreciate her great work.

Full of examples, not guidance
The abundant citations are nice, but most pages spent on patients' life stories don't really do much other than repetitively demonstrate how harsh (though conquerable) addiction can be.There's some focus on how our reward circuits tend to gain tolerance and hence effectively create a pain/pleasure balance; as for finding balance and well-being, the book doesn't offer much other than abstience, positive social feedback from being truthful, and water baths.
