It is an excellent book
It is an excellent book having problem solving approach, great for first course in programming. It is also good for experienced. But the book print quality is not good, print characters are too dark, bit difficult to read. request publisher to provide book with proper character printing.

An okay-dokey book
An okay book with lots of good programming exercises which can make you learn the python programming. But the coverage of topics is not detailed and providing understanding also is also not good enough. There is a feeling that still some more things need to be described! The biggest plus point of this book are the programming exercises. Two additional stars just for the programming exercises; otherwise not fit even for 1 star!

More than Just Programming!
I am a Humanities guy. Philosophy, Theology, Education in Uni. I am not a programmer. I bought this book to learn the basics of Python as I prepare to teach some high schoolers the fundamentals of Computer Science. This book fits the curriculum perfectly. More than just 'learn Python' this book gets at the process of computation problem solving, how to plan a program before putting fingers to keyboard, and how to break the problem down into manageable chunks.I have tried out a few Python programming books, and they quickly get way over my head. This one works at a good pace, and really pushes more than just the program, but the thinking that goes into it. Enough to keep a beginner learning, and enough to keep a programmer busy as well.Highly recommended. It was also praised by my programming friend!

A well written resource for beginner programmers and a concise reference for others!
I found this book to really helpful. I am a student of Professor Dierbach and picked up this book after taking a OOP course with him and I must say this book is truly outstanding. The presentation of content is extremely beginner friendly and tackles Object Oriented Programming using Python from scratch. It is an extraordinary introduction to programming and I have often found myself explaining various concepts to my peers using some of the concise wordings from the book.I am truly impressed with the "Motivation" section in the beginning of the chapters as it puts the chapter in perspective. For anyone even mildly interested in the Computer Science discipline, this book teaches the most valuable lesson of programming being a tool to problem solving, the central focus of the book.Although the book is beginner friendly, it is a wonderful Python and programming resource in general for intermediate programmers as well. The exercises aid comprehension greatly and the "Program Modification Problem" almost forces you to understand the topic. It is evident much thought and effort has been put into the book to ensure the reader gets the information he / she needs to venture into the field. All in all, this book is very well thought out and in my own experience, I have not found any other resource similar to this. I highly reccomend this to anyone interesting in Python, programming, or CS students.

Great Value! Bought for Beginning Python Coder.
I bought this for my son, who's starting out as a comp sci major this year. I am a programmer myself, and bought this book at the recommendation of a friend. It is a great intro to Comp Sci and the Python language. The book summarizes the concepts well and can be used as a tutorial for anyone starting out in the space. It is fairly easy to understand and a great tool for students to self teach the key concepts involved with Python.

Must read for anyone who wants to learn CS and Python
This is by far the most gratifying introduction to computer science using python book I've read. Most books are not for self-learning and require you to purchase supplementary resources because they lack exercises, solutions, and comprehensive field knowledge. This book has it all and functions equivalent to a paper version of a full fledged college computer science course. I highly recommend this. I have gone through Stanford's CS curriculum and this would have been an excellent addition. Even though I already have a very strong background in computer science and am just using this for learning Python, I am still learning new bits of information. Well done.
