Perfect Fit for a 2001 Chevrolet 5.3L Suburban - Adaptor Wire Required for Installation
Exactly what I needed to replace a defective alternator on a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. For this application I did have to have an adaptor wire to connect the four wire original to the dual plug on the alternator.

defective unit
on 2/28/24 I ordered this alternator for a 2003 GMC Yukon. Being and ACDelco Gold, I thought it would be good.Item was installed, and it made a loud chirping noise for the first 5 miles of operation. Battery was not being charged during this time as well. After 5 miles the voltage gauge needle would go to it's normal spot and noise would stop.on 3/4/24 I ordered a replacement because it was obvious that the first one was defective.Second unit arrived and was installed. Same issue as the first. 5-10 minutes of chirping (loud) would continue until unit started charging. I put up with this for a month, and then two weeks ago the unit would not stop chirping, nor would it charge the battery.I was in a bind and went to a local auto parts store. Replaced it with a new unit and no problems since. Now I go to return the AC Delco units back to AMAZON- I didn't realize that there was only a 30day window to return these items. SO NOW I HAVE TWO DEFECTIVE ALTERNATORS AS PAPER WEIGHTS.Will have to look at whether or not I continue to purchase through AMAZON

Great price for a quality OEM part
The original alternator in my 2001 Silverado 5.3 went bad so I checked what my nearby parts stores had available and was not impressed. All they had were their respective in house brands of alternators, all of which were remanufactured, and the prices were $150-$250!!! I have another truck so I didn't need the part right away so I went to Amazon and was shocked to see a brand new ACDELCO "Gold" alternator (made by Delphi, the OEM) for under $100. Stay away from remans especially ones that aren't even OE to begin with. Unless you need it right away its insane to spend double the amount for an inferior product that isn't even new! The original alternator lasted 22 years and almost exactly 200,000 miles. That's enough convincing for me to stick to the OEM. Even though its an easy job I'd prefer to not have to replace my alternator again for as long as possible.

Nice new Alternator at a good price
For the price, you really can't beat this. I bought this for my '03 Chevy Silverado 2500HD w/ 6L (LQ4), which it fit as expected. Removal/install took me about 15 minutes, not including replacing the pulley (see below).Pros:Seems well built. Brand new-not a poorly re-manufactured unit like most other units at and above this price. Easily installed on the LQ4's accessory drive.Cons:Pulley was damaged upon arrival (one of the ridges was nicked, and unfortunately there was a slight bulge into one of the grooves, which would likely damage the serpentine belt) . Not wanting to go several more days without a working alternator, I decided to swap the pulley from my old alternator onto this unit instead of returning it. Given the price, I really can't complain too much on this issue. Alternator is assembled in Mexico. That's better than Made in China, but made in USA is always preferred if possible!Other thoughts:For those of you replacing one of these on the GM 6.0L truck engine, the following may prove helpful: You will likely need to pry the old one out. Just stick a prybar under the old alternator and pry it upward. (after removing the serpentine belt, of course!) Once you've worked it out, I found that it's easier to get the new one in if you take a hammer and gently work the little sleeves in the front holes of the mount towards the front of the truck (you just need a millimeter or so of movement. They'll snug back up to their original position when you install the new alternator). If you don't push these forward, the new alternator can be very hard to reinstall. (Of course, I'm not responsible if you break the mount or damage anything else while doing this!) Hopefully this helps someone.

Exact replacement, work as designed.
I read some reviews where there were complaints of the alternator making a whining noise. This may be normal for new alternators until the brushes are seated. The alternator I installed made a slight whining noise but after 4,000 miles since installing it, I no longer hear it. The original alternator has 225,000 miles on it and was still working but as a "playing it safe" I decided to replace it because I didn't want to break down on a deserted highway somewhere between here and there.
