Designed to be used the other way round - and it shows
A good idea let down by poor execution. The slots in the side are quite narrow and treats such as sunflower seeds, pellets and mealworms will rarely come out, quickly blocking the slots so that the smaller grains are stuck as well. There is a large gap between the lid, which is at the bottom, and the lowest slots on the container - a lot of food simply collects there and is not accessible to the chickens. Worse, there are slots in the top of the container - no use for letting the food out but very good at letting the rain in. The wet food comes out even less readily than the dry and, of course, the rain collects at the bottom of the container, along with the uneaten food. There is a companion piece to this peck toy which is designed to hang downwards and appears to work well. There are large slots at the bottom and the lid is at the top. However, it is simply not sufficient to take this design, turn it upside down and put it on a rod without regard to the fact that it functions quite differently in reverse. It should have a solid top and there should be an insert inside the lid to cover the well there, preferably guiding the food towards the side slots.I wanted a free standing peck toy, so that I could put it anywhere in the garden but will have to hang this from the roof of the chicken run - as designed.
