Shorted and melted my battery
I really wanted to like this light. It got a good review from Caleb Pike over at DSLR Video Shooter. It's very lightweight, and flexible enough to be used in a variety of locations. As I live in the Pacific Northwet, I appreciate it's water resistance. It's a pertty bright light, and does bi-color so I can use it to simulate later afternoon sunlight, or bright moonlight.However, some of the problems showed up pretty quickly. I discovered that I couldn't operate it remotely with my Samsung S8 phone since the app is only for Iphones.I also discovered that the ball head mount for the cross beams support (not pictured on Amazon), has a hard time holding the light. Even if you crank it down very hard, it's pretty easy for the light to come loose.But the biggest problem that I ran into was that it didn't fit my Maxoak 177Wh v-mount battery well. The light kept flickering on and off as the battery moved every so slightly in the mount. Much to my horror, I then discovered that the light was actually shorting out. Check out the pictures to see the melted plastic around the male pin on the light, and the female socket on my battery. Fortunately, battery still functions.I've worked a lot with V-mount systems over the last few years, and have found that not every company builds their mounts to the correct tolerances to fit all the v-mount batteries out there. So far, all my batteries work with the mounts on all my Aputure lights... Downgraded to 1 star as the seller attempted to purchase a better review from me. They offered me a different light (Falcon Eyes 12T) in return for deleting my review. I told them the best I could do was raise the rating to 3 stars as a response to good customer service. They said that wasn't enough and declined to send another light.
