Great mains powered mug warmer for the office
I've fancied a mug warmer for work for a while but I've only seen USB powdered ones which have a lot of comments about them being underpowered. I turn found this one which is mains powered so had to give it a go.It looks great, nice and minimalist with a smooth black top.The power switch at the front of the top is superb and is flush and touch sensitive, requiring no pressure to activate. Each touch scrolls through high temp (red) > low temp (blue) > off (off) and back again. The unit also shuts off automatically after 8 hours which is a nice safety feature.I left a cup of coffee on this for over an hour and when I tested it the coffee was a perfect drinking temperature. I'm not sure I'll ever use the low temp setting but it's nice to have.I put a drop of water onto the top just to see how hot it was and it did sizzle so I'm certainly not touching it if I can help it. I did have to move it away from my mouse pad though just in case I grabbed the wrong thing.

It's better than a USB one...But that's about all
I bought this due to all the glowing reviews on here, as I'm tired of wasting half cups of coffee because I've not managed to drink it quick enough.I take black coffee, so my drink is already rather hot when I first brew it. I thought this device would keep my drink hot for me, but it doesn't. It simply keeps the drink at a more stable temperature, but it still continues to drop. If you leave it on the hot plate for an hour or more, your drink will be lukewarm - NOT HOT.I can understand that this unit is probably not for heating drinks back up from cold/warm, but I expected it to at least retain a hot drinking temperature, but this isn't the case. Most of the reviewers here must have super sensitive lips or something, because although it is better than a USB version, it's still not suitable. I've resorted to getting a double walled mug which seems to do a much better job than this useless gadget. Most reviews are too positive for what this really is. I've noticed a couple reviews which share my views though, those are the ones you need to take note of, unless my item was faulty...Who knows. One thing I did notice is that only the center of the device gets hot, not the entire disc.

Hot, depends on what cup you have.
Most cups has a raised lip at the bottom, all these cup warmer design has a flat surface, which would make a big difference to your drink in terms of temperature. If you love a very hot drink, set to high and use a glass cup with very flat bottom (I have yet to try cos I cannot find a nice flat bottom glass cup!) and I am sure the drink will stay very hot. At the moment my cup with lip is on high heat and it is ok as long as you put a lid on, you can see why flat bottom cups would make a big difference. On high heat settings, I can still hold the cup warmer by the metal edges and move it around, but do not try to touch the middle where your hand can barely touch it for even 1 sec. it is that hot! Overall, I think it is a great looking product with a cord long enough for most homes. Low heat should be fine if you have a flat bottom cup. One last thought, since the heated service are made of glass, I would place the cup on it gently, it should be tempered glass but just in case if you have a bad day, take it easy and have a drink and relax and a hot drink would help you get through any situation.

Useful part of my kit (Jewellery maker)
I know this wasn’t what it was designed for but nonetheless it’s absolutely perfect for keeping my jar of jewellers pickle warm. Nice quality, aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean. Has 2 settings and keeps a good even temperature.

Good size for big cups
I have quite a wide cup I use at work so quite a few of the ones I looked sat were not big enough, but this is big enough to sit a pint pot on it!It does get rather hot, but that’s another reason why I chose a mains powered one and not USB. Just be careful you don’t burn yourself, but I have a large enough desk to keep it out of my way.Really enjoying being able to finish a cup of coffee before it’s cold.

Either I'm an idiot or this gets way too hot
So I plugged it in and plonked a mug on it. Mug of tea didn't seem to stay warm so I tested the temperature of the plate by rapidly dabbing my fingers in the middle of it. Well. That was a mistake. I now have two burn blisters to show for it. Should this plate really be hotter than the surface of the Sun? Is that safe for a home setting? Am I about to get an electricity bill the size of Switzerland's GDP? Or am I just an idiot? My partner is convinced of the former. I must go. I need to learn to write with my right hand.
