I bought this for my son for his birthday and he loved it. He liked the anime and now can't wait to read the manga.

Real friends hide the bodies.
Rena has murdered the woman plotting to blackmail her father and ruin his life. Now she has to take care of the woman's yakuza boyfriend, Teppei Hojo. With cold calculation, she lures him to the dump, strands him in the dark, and attacks. With his death, the road to her happiness is clear. Rena has protected her father and defended their life. She just has to dispose of the body. The teenager sets to work, not realizing that her friends, led by Keiichi, would come to the dump knowing it is her favorite place to be.Confronted with her crimes, her friends will have to choose to support Rena or be horrified by her events. Can Keiichi convince Rena that they are on her side. That they are her friends and understand how desperation drove her to this course. Can they overcome the madness inside of her and find some sort of peace for the summer of Hinamizawa? Or will further tragedy strike? We get more into the curse here, what it does, that this madness affects people who leave Hinamizawa. The same madness that led Keiichi to scratch out his throat in the first arc. The one that drives people to acts of violence. Is this the true cause behind the murders?Or is there still the human element? What is truly going on in Hinamizawa? Will this arc end in the tragic death of these friends? Or can they overcome it by helping and supporting each other? The Atonement Arc builds on what has come before, on these relationships we've seen between these characters stressed in different ways, taken to their limits. And even more interesting, someone is starting to remember these alternate takes.Higurashi is continues to excel. This horror/mystery series has great writing, great art, and great characters!

Fantastic series and good quality.
I had to return it because I realized that I accidentally ordered two. I was going to leave it in the original packaging but decided to go ahead and look at it so I can leave a review. The book is in fantastic NEW quality, no dings or dents. Great seller.

Brutal, sweet, and dark
I've been a big fan of Higurashi since I was little, and to see it come to life from both the anime and in manga form is a wonderful feeling! The artist really does a wonderful job in capturing Rena's thoughts and feelings in her every action, absolutly love it!

I want to take them home!!
This is gearing up to be a pretty intriguing arc in the series, so I'll warn people: there's a big reveal in this volume as well as a bit of foreshadowing for the future. There's still a long ways to go, but there's enough here to whet your appetite for the here and now.I couldn't help but feel sorry for Rena and for what she felt she'd been forced to resort to. I've always felt that she was one of the more likable characters in the series and many of her issues are ones that just about everyone can relate to, such as losing a parent to infidelity and having to deal with the other parent moving on. I think that's what makes her such a tragic figure in this arc, second only to the torment that Satoko had to go through in her particular arc. (Only one character's experiences can beat that, but I won't post those spoilers here.)The artwork in this is still great, especially the colorful splash pages at the beginning. As Rina would say, "I want to take it home with me!"

Great continuation of the series
Great continuation of the series. Love the artwork and Rena's story is a tragic one here. Bought from Book Depository. First copy was lost by Royal Mail so they sent a replacement free of charge. Very happy with their service as always.
