How can you not go for a product called "The Gentleman's Stiffener"...
I'm rather new to the idea of styling one's facial fur, but after seeing several gents sporting well-curled and striking 'taches, I thought I'd give it a go. Capt. Fawcett's was literally the first moustache wax I spotted, so I thought it was as good a place as any to start - plus the name is just awesome. It takes a little practice to use, but using the tip of a penknife or even a pen cap will get out a little bit of wax out of the handy little pot (or as another reviewer suggests, the curved end of a moustache comb does the trick). Then it's just a matter of working it warm between the tips of the fingers, smoothing it through the moustache, and then working it into shape. I found that a quick blast with a hot hairdryer once the wax was combed into the hair got it exceptionally workable, and once cooled set the hair in place perfectly. I certainly need a lot more practice with it, but the results are so far impressing my novice eye. It also works well in a beard also, and has finally allowed me to sculpt my chin-scruff into something a lot more neat and defined. The wax itself isn't overly tacky once worked into the hair, and thus far hasn't proved flaky. While I don't know about the other fragrances in the Capt. Fawcett range (Lavender - which was the scent of choice of Hercule Poirot - and Ylang-Ylang), the Sandalwood aroma is subtle but noticeable, and very pleasant. Based on this I might be tempted to try the others out at some stage, but it looks like this little pot will go a very long way. Certainly an impressive product, one I'm hoping to get a lot more use out of - I say old boy!

Absolutely fantastic, wish I started earlier
Absolutely fantastic product. The first wax I have bought. Im at about 1.5cm of growth and I would recommend starting earlier to train the hair to sit how you want it.If you have an active job, or put helmets on frequently you'll need to apply it twice a day (on long days, 12hrs+ of looking smart), or one application is suitable for an office based 9-5.Work the wax really well in your finger tips, about a grain of rice split in half in amount. Start at the centre and work outwards. If you've put too much in, use a cat flea brush to remove excess and a tooth brush head to smooth out.

Does the job
Looking at the 'tache at the start of the year, I thought "It needs a trim... Unless I try styling it. Why have I never thought of waxing it before?!" Ridiculous, really; I've had one since I could grow one, which is more years than I care to admit here. But I'd never thought of trying to wax it. You can get almost anything on Amazon these days, can't you? Yep!It very quickly becomes apparent that moustache products come in one flavour - faux Victorian. Even some of the reviewers have caught the bug. I settled on trying this one & the Bounder. The Clubman reviews seemed, on the whole, to be a shade more critical. Being a first-time waxer, I've left it a few weeks before commenting here. I'm still not entirely convinced about waxing, but that's not a reflection on the product. It's a very firm wax, but pleasantly and (importantly) gently scented. This is going to be under your nose all day, you really don't want something that smells like a tart's boudoir! Sorry, my one descent into faux-V, honest, guv...The firmness of the wax strikes me as an advantage as much as a fault. I gather that it's all too easy to end up with too much wax & unsightly results. It's a little like adding salt to food - you can add a little, add a little, until you get the right amount. If you put too much in, it's a lot more awkward getting it out again. So if it takes a little rubbing to build up a layer of wax on your finger, at least you're not slapping it on like greasepaint! One trick I've found quite useful is to work it in starting from the lip & working up, rather than from the nose, working down. You're not smearing wax on your skin instead of the hair, it makes it easier to work into the tips of the hair & the body of the moustache from below and, at the end or rather the beginning of the day, it's the bottom of the thing that you want to style away from your mouth, so you'd surely rather have more of the wax below than above. When all is said & done, it's scented wax. I find it hard to get terribly excited about scented wax. It's a perfectly good product that does the job you want perfectly well, in that it holds your moustache in place without reeking all day (I have a marginal preference for the simpler scent of this over the slightly less firm Bounder). That, to me, is 4, rather than 5 stars. Besides, a proper Englishman maintains a proper reserve at all times & doesn't get over-excited. Demmit! I just descended into faux-V again, didn't I...

Firm hold, nice fragrance, can’t go wrong.
Strong wax, needs some manipulation between the fingers before applying but has a good hold and a pleasant smell. Far better than some others on sale on Amazon.

Nice smell, but no hold.
Goes on easily, but my cache started to droop within a couple of hours.

Great stuff
Capt Fawcett's Moustache Wax - Expedition Strength. No matter what high adventure the gentleman is on, he can be rest assured that this moustache wax will not let him down. And if he does need to touch up his glorious manly whiskers, in order to impress the ladies, then he will be grateful for the tins small size that can easily be hidden on his person. This wax offers a very strong hold for your moustache and can last many hours provided you don't keep playing with it (the moustache that is!). This comes a cost in the sense of being very difficult to scop out of the tin. You have to dig with your thumbnail in order to scope the wax out, and it will be a bit crumbly at first until you warm it up between thumb and finger which can be difficult, and will result in bits in your moustache and or beard if not warmed up properly. However this can be made easier by melting it with the use of a hair dryer on highest heat setting for a minute or two. This makes applying it to the moustache supper easy although it quickly hardens up. Apllication can be difficult and can tug at the hair which for me caused a couple of whiskers to come out. But with time and practice, you will soon learn how to best use this wax. And as it's a hard wax, you will be able to style your moustache the way you want it and be reassured it will stay the way you like it. Highly recommended.
