With a bit of effort works really well
I have two daughters with quite long hair who sadly occasionally come home from primary school with head lice. This product in combination with the nitty gritty metal comb (which you need to buy separately) works really well. The upsides are that it's a natural product so no nasty chemicals to rub into their scalps, it smells quite nice, does a great job of shining my wedding ring and it works! The downside is it's a labour intensive process (as I'm sure most treatments are). Personally I comb the hair through with the metal comb first to get rid of as many of the little sods as possible, then I comb through again with the solution. The metal comb is great for removing the lice and any eggs. In addition to the combing we also bag up all soft toys for 48hrs and change their bedding. I believe that the lice can't survive for long on things like bedding, but they can for a while which is why we take this extra precaution - maybe totally unnecessary but I wouldn't want to take the chance of clearing the lice and then getting them back the next day!! I'd highly recommend this product if using with the metal comb - I've never used it without the metal comb so unsure if it is for this reason that others have found it less effective.

Very useful in combination with the nitty gritty comb to remove residual headlice/nits
This lotion does NOT kill headlice, it is meant to be used with the nitty gritty comb to remove residual headlice/nits after treatment, or to detect new infections before they get worse.I had the nitty gritty comb for a long time and always found it useless because not would not remove a single nit but was breaking my daughters hair like crazy. That's because I was using it, mistakenly, on wet (washed) hair. Using it with this lotion works wonders. Of course you can use the comb with any other oil and it also works, but I really like the smell of this lotion. What I do to keep headlice at bay is:1- If there is a case of headlice in school or I see nits in the girls, I buy a treatment in the pharmacy and use it right away.2- Then, every 2 days I use this lotion with the nitty gritty comb to comb their hair for a good 20-30 minutes each. There has not been a single time that a treatment (and I've tried all types and brands) has got rid of every single headlice/nit, there are always some headlice and nits that survive the treatment and come up when combing.3- Usually, I keep seeing headlice/nits for at least 2 combing sessions, most of the times are very small headlice that hatched after treatment. But after 3-4 sessions they usually go away. Then I keep combing once a week, and then once a month as a preventive measure4- I only do a second treatment if after the first treatment and 4-5 sessions of combing twice a week I keep seeing headlice/nits in the comb

Pleasant product to use
Pleasant smell and seemed harmless. However, some lice were still active after use. I recommend visiting a lice clinic which I should have gone to in the first place.

Definitely worth buying
After reading all the reviews and a recommendation from a friend, I bought the Nitty Gritty solution and comb. The comb is quite honestly genius. Using the solution and the comb cleared all headlice and eggs first time round. I’m not sure how people are still having headlice left after using this with the comb however I would say you do need to be meticulous with combing. I combed the hair twice as I was determined to blitz the buggers first time round. This isn’t a pesticide so won’t automatically kill all the eggs and headlice. It’s a natural remedy to help clear them. Tbh there’s really no need for the strong toxic pesticides this works brilliantly. I would say invest in the comb too, absolutely worth it and can be used on its own with conditioner if you don’t have solution. I personally prefer the solution rather than condition method as the hair is easier to handle.

Makes the fail-safe constant combing through method loads easier
As a mum of many I have used this to get rid of our thankfully infrequent visitors for years now. The strong pong helps to overpower the little squatters, the oil makes it difficult for anything to set up home and leaves the hair nice and soft afterwards. Best of all there are no dodgy chemicals in this, and as combing through obsessively every evening is really the only way to eradicate everything-why use something potentially harmful to your child? Not sure that I like the metal comb associated with this lotion, it seems to scrape and pull, the cheap white plastic ones are hard to beat.
