Watch out for Geodes that won’t break
I was so excited about this for my second grade class when doing our rocks and minerals unit. Once I got the geodes out and the hammers the children were telling me they would not break. I thought maybe they were just hitting hard enough (we were on concrete outside) but then I started hitting them as hard as I could and only a few broke out of the amount I received. I also did not get the right amount to start with that was stated online. I’m sure it was not intended to happen and I got a bad batch but it was not a success and was a a lot of money. Hope others enjoyed theirs though! It looked fun!

Stunning
I purchased these as a Christmas gift/ experience for my family. As a major skeptic and because I love rocks, I've opened two so far. They are absolutely stunning! These aren't supposed to have gemstones inside, so don't look for vibrant colors. The two I've opened broke fairly easily. They have a beautiful mix of clear and smoky grey/ brown crystals and sparkle like snow! I couldn't be more pleased. (The photos and video only tell part of the story)There is a little dirt inside the package as expected, so be aware that you may want to open them in an area where you don't mind the debris. They are packaged in a sturdy ziploc inside a nice cardboard box.Update Dec 25, 2019We opened most of our geodes today. I purchased this set and the next size up. All but a few were hollow, some with very thin shells.We used a regular household hammer. The kids, 9 and 11, were able to open them with no help, even the few solid ones. The geodes are beautiful inside. Out of 50 or 60 geodes, we had one that was essentially a rock.

3rd grade students loved having the opportunity to see a geode cracked open for them!
As a substitute teacher, I loved that each student had this first hand experience with geology! Each 3rd grade Science teacher got to crack one open for their class, and I am giving both classes I taught their own geode (to break open with their parents) as a parting gift. On to a first grade class next! 😊💓

Great beginners set.
My 7 & 9 year olds absolutely loved theses geodes. My 7 year old is crazy about rocks and read about geodes from his rock book. He really wanted to try cracking one open so I did my research made made sure I bought a set that would offer more hallow geodes than solid rocks. Out of the whole box, we had 7 solid ones. All the geodes are the same inside: clear crystal. If you are looking for a set of of colored ones or different minerals(?), don’t get this set. This was our first time purchasing geodes so I just wanted something fun. Next geodes we buy will be ones with different colors and minerals(?). Even though the geodes were all the same inside, my boys loved it! This was a great intro set for my boys.

Exactly what I wanted
We bought these for a joint party for our 11 and 6 year olds. We had guests ranging from 13 to 3 and this was a fun activity. Even the teenagers enjoyed discovering what the geode looked like inside.My only complaint is we had to destroy a screw driver in order to fashion a chisel or the rocks just got smashed. Consider adding a chisel to the package.
