Created by Mystic Seaport from an original on the whaler Charles W. Morgan, each prism is handpoured solid glass weighing over 2 pounds. Laid flush into the wooden ship deck, the glass prism refracted and dispersed a flood of natural light into the cabin below form a small deck opening. Hexagonal base 4 1/2 W tapering to a point 4 1/4 high.

Not a good source of light, but necessary for the Deck Prism unless you bought the hanger
We bought this for the large deck prism, but don't buy it for the small one, it's way to big and won't work for the small deck prisms(we have both sizes). It doesn't give off much light, and is finicky with when it will or won't turn on (right out of the box, brand new). We debated on returning because it's so unreliable and gives off so little light, and we regretted not buying the attractive gold hanger (like an indoor/outdoor potted plant hanger). You really need this or the hanger if you buy the deck prism, otherwise it's just a paperweight (which may be all you want it for). The bulb comes with it.

Most interesting night light
I like the history behind these prisms and it makes a great night light in the family room, also a frequent conversation starter with friends.

Prism base illuminator
Does everything I expected it to do. A + would recommend this item to anyone who has a large deck prism.

Give Me Light!
This illuminator is not bright enough, the deck prism is not even as bright as a night light; very disappointed. Expected results similar to picture.

This makes a really GREAT night light in my computer room
This makes a really GREAT night light in my computer room. Also would make for a really cool accent light. I have it on a timer. Also, the light bulb was smashed to bits right in the box - was not packaged well at all. Other than that, no problems.I was also thinking of getting different colored light bulbs or tinted cellophane rather than getting different colored prisms - just for variety.
