Product variability is annoying -- will I get a thick or thin gel?
I like this stuff; started using it when I first got a convertible 16 years ago and decided that some sort of gel might be helpful at least some of the time. I've pretty much used it every day since then. As indicated in some of the reviews, the product had become a thinner, runnier goo which still worked ok -- but when I found an older tube with the clear green viscous older formula, I realized that I did miss the original product. Anyway, I recently purchased 6 new tubes and they no longer say "Stephan" on the front. The maker is listed now as "the Oakhurst Company" of Levittown NY; nothing else on the tube has changed including the ingredients list. I'm pleased to say the thicker gel is back and all is right with the world.Update April 2018:I just received a new order of Protein 29. Unlike what I described in this review written about a year ago, the product I received today has "Stephan" on the label again and is a thinner gel. I won't start using this batch daily for a few weeks so I'm not really sure about performance -- it may be ok. But I am downgrading from 5 stars to 3 because of the high degree of variability. I'm not sure what the current product is or what to expect from a reorder.

It is still a great product from E Bay
I have used this product for many years, it was "Excellent" back when it was actually a "Dark Green Gel", some BOZO changed the formula to a "Light Green Goo" , for profit i am sure. Probably made money for a "Benie Sug". It is still a great product from E Bay, I usually order it by the dozen. I did call the Stephan Co. some years ago when i first noticed the change, thinking China had Forged the brand as with some of the Shampoos and was told that sometimes they get the formula wrong. Well i guess they found out some people still buy it, even though some stores have dropped it and decided to leave the formula wrong. Go figure.

"gel" was partially liquified.
While I can manage to use the product in its semi-liquid state, it takes a little extra care to see that it doesn't drip in transfer from tube to hand to application on hair.

Bad Hair Gel
Every tube we got the gel had turned to liquid, which tells me the product was old. I would like to order more for my husband but do not want to spend the money and have to throw it away. Any suggestions?Carole Hargrove Pueblo, Colorado

Formula is changed, it's now a soupy dark green lotion instead of a clear gel.You may want to try one before ordering a larger quantity.Stephan - go back to the original formula, you're disappointing many long term customers.

The quality of the product
I have been using this product for the last 10-15 years. I find the newer products are a bit too dilute (more liquid than jel).

Watery non-green non-gel
I have had the same problems with product deterioration that other reviews here are mentioning. This product used to be a green gel, with no smell. Now it is watery and pale in color. My wife complains about the smell. It is still better than the men's hair products sold in stores, but it's not as good as it used to be. And now it is not available in our local pharmacies (CVS and Walgreen,) so I am stuck buying it online. Please get back to the original formula!
