FILMAGE: THE STORY OF DESCENDENTS/ALL, directed by Matt Riggle & Deedle LaCour, chronicles the legends of punk and treats audiences to interviews with the band and it's contemporaries Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana), Mark Hoppus (Blink-182), Mike Watt (Minutemen) Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion), and many more, revealing the untold story of one of the most influential bands in punk. Long before punk rock inflicted it's puncture wound on the map of mainstream music, the Descendents were in a van brewing a potent mix of pop, angst, love and coffee and influencing a generation to come. The documentary follows drummer and square-peg Bill Stevenson as he pushes himself and a rotating door of band-mates to 'achieve all,' his relentless concept of 'going for greatness, the utmost possible' despite any and all setbacks. This Bonus Cut edition of FILMAGE is packed with nearly 80 additional minutes of bonus content! Includes interviews, archival footage, live shows, tour stories, and band history that landed on the cutting room floor, along with two short films, THE LOMBARDO SHORT (starring original bassist Tony Lombardo) and THE STEVENSON MONOLOGUES, which offers a deeper peek into the mind of Bill Stevenson as he sounds off on fashion, religion, high school, Milo and more.

Very well done!
I don't think I could write much here that hasn't already been written. If you're into this sort of thing, whether you are a fan of the Descendents, ALL, both, or music documentaries in general, I would recommend checking it out.I would, however, like to write that some of the lower-star reviews - the ones where people wrote things like, "There's not enough about the Descendents" or "There's too much about ALL" - seem a little misinformed partially due to the facts that 1) Descendents/ALL is in the title of the movie (so, like, expect some healthy coverage of ALL), 2) ALL actually did make MORE albums than The Descendents, and 3) ALL was a much longer running and more consistent unit (speaking in terms of musicians being able to stick to one band for a period of time - singers excepted) than The Descendents...so I mean, no wonder. If you really think about it, Bill probably wrote (at a guess) maybe about 70% ~ 80% of the material that was recorded between the two bands, so I tend to think of this as more of a documentary about Bill's career as a drummer and leader between the two bands. Even if the Descendents were your favorite band and you absolutely hated every iteration of ALL for whatever reason, Bill was still the driving force behind the whole thing.Milo was certainly iconic in his own right, but his presence was pretty limited, by comparison.

The best band documentary I have ever seen!
I'm by no means and ultra-super elite Descendents fan. I was actually an ALL fan before I had even heard of the Descendents nor did I know it was the same band. However, I have been a fan since '99 when a friend recommended I listen to "Everything Sucks." I was immediately hooked into their music. I then proceeded to buy a copy of it along with "Milo Goes to College" and "Somery." Having been born in 1985, I didn't get to experience the Descendents when they were pounding out albums. I was late to the party hearing about this film coming out and I immediately bought it. This film gives you an inside look at each member along with the 3 singers for ALL. The way the movie is shot is spectacular! The way the story is told is fantastic and does a great job getting you acquainted with each member and makes you care about them as people and not just as musicians. No spoilers here but if you like at least one Descendents song then you owe it to yourself to give this film a watch!

ALL? Yes, Descendents/ALL!
Being a fan of Descendents since I was 14 years old, I never thought that this amazing band would ever get the recognition that they truly deserved. This documentary is testament to a band that really put their heart and soul into their music. This review is going to contain some spoilers: no one ends up with a raging drug habit and none of the band members are clueless drunks. There is, however, a lead singer who choses to be a scientist and a drummer whose love of music won't allow him to slip into mediocrity. Other musicians find it easy to say good things about the band who [in]famously put a drawing of a roll of toilet paper on their album cover and have songs about farting and the pursuit of the idea of "ALL."If I could sum up this movie, it would be positive and entertaining!

Best Punk Band Ever, That's a YES!
I first saw the Descendents back in 1987, and last saw them in the fall of 2019. Now its a family affair with my teenagers in tow. They always put on a great show, and have plenty of energy left in the tank. Great film for sure.I'm sure I'm somewhere in one of the concert scenes from Riot Fest, or another venue or two. Play hard, play fast.... you must sacrifice, nothing else will suffice, pay the price!

a film about the descendents and all...no need to say more
this is an excellent film. it begins with the inception of the punk rock outfit, the descendents. i grew up on this band & it was awesome to see the timelines of both the descendents and their sister band, all. solid interviews with previous and past members of the bands as well as great commentary by many phenomenal artists such as mike watt, keith morris, kira roessler, fat mike etc. both all and the descendents songs play throughout the film; in the background of interviews. the movie will give you a solid understanding of how the band became what they are today and their place in the history of punk rock. these bands are amazing live & the energy is definitely captured in this. great film. i will be watching it many more times.

Not a 5 star movie
Seen this twice now. The beginning, talking about the Descendents history, is great, with cool footage and interviews. Then, a lot of time is spent on All. It starts to drag a little at this point. I have no All albums and don't plan on getting any. They insist it's basically the same band as the Descendents, to me it's nowhere as good, All sounded generic to me. It's cool to see the Descendents have such a huge following nowadays, they deserve it. They are such a hugely influential band, and they did it so much better than their imitators. I recommend this movie but all the 5 star ratings this gets here are unwarranted.

Descendants story told with music included! Winner!
Absolutely definitive and insightful look into the pioneer band in the seeds of pop punk or just good hooky rock. Bill Stevenson had been a founding father and the genius of Descendants and All hint same music minus the iconic Milo. He is also the driving drummer force in Black Flag's key era of touring and recording. These epic adventures take you up through 2010. I liken this story to Mudhoney's place in grunge. These are the bands many of the heroes of today listened too. Candid interviews with almost members except Frank the co-founder. Many other famous current rock icons have cameos to testify to the legacy of Descendants and All come for the music alone and meet the loonies making it.

All? No All!
It's great how watching a good Rockumentary can rekindle your love affair with a band. Hearing the stories behind songs, seeing the people and who they truly are. I have been a fan of The Descendents and All for years, but knew very little about them. Hearing Bill's story and seeing his passion for the music really blew me away. I'm now listening to all the albums again with a new interest and noticing things I never had before. Great movie even if you are not a fan, yes, but if you are a fan you absolutely have to watch this and become an even bigger fan.

Film about the greatest band in the world
Buy it. Buy it, Cameos from Grohl and Hoppus plus most of the early hardcore and US punk pioneers. Great footage clips both past and very recent.

Schlicht beeindruckend.
