Great Field Watch
Based on the Swiss ETA 2801-2 manual wind movement, this 38 mm diameter 9.6 mm thin watch is great for someone wanting to experience a classic field watch. The original Hamilton company made many such watches over the years as a supplier to the US military. It partnered with Buren, a Swiss brand, when production was moved to Switzerland in 1969. The company was purchased By SSIH in 1971. This watch recalls the feel and function of the past. The watch features a hacking movement, an 80 hour power reserve with luminous hands and triangular hour markers. The tip of the seconds hand is luminous. The luminous material has a yellowish color in daylight, giving it an older vintage aesthetic. In the dark it glows green. The Arabic dial has an inner race of smaller 24 hour indicators that contribute to the functional feel of this watch. In line with that functionality, the case is bead blasted overall with no polished surfaces. The watch has a sapphire crystal. The solid back shows the Hamilton logo, model and serial number, also indicating water resistance of 5 bar. The signed 6.5 mm crown feels right. Sufficiently large and knurled for easy winding and a good grip when setting the watch. Mine runs a little fast. The watch gains 4 to 18 seconds per day depending on state of wind and position. Your mileage may vary. With 21,600 VPH this 25 jewel movement has that vintage look to the seconds hand movement and sings when I listen to it. Overall, very satisfying. One will notice a gap between the watch case and spring bar when on a strap. Thanks to this gap and the relatively long 47 mm lug to lug length, this watch lends itself well to a NATO strap. The drilled lugs make strap changing very easy. If you like to change straps frequently, this watch is a versatile choice. If you are considering a mechanical watch that is durable, light, legible and easy to wear, this field watch would be a great companion. For anyone concerned about owning a manual wind watch, the need to interact with your watch every day or two is a good thing. With the 80 hour power reserve, it will keep running over the weekend without needing to be set. Since it has no date complication, it is easily wound and set if it is allowed to run down. But I'll bet you will want to wear this watch often enough so it never stops.

Solid low profile field watch
I am not a watch aficionado and this is my first mechanical watch. After 10 days here are my impressions: looks great and keeps a fairly low profile compared to bulkier watches. Metal case, black face, and pale yellow lume contrast each other handsomely. The lume also works well in the dark. Nato strap was comfortable out of the box and seems durable. As for accuracy, mine seems to gain about 5-6 seconds per day. From what I have read this is pretty decent for a mechanical watch of this price.Keep in mind that if you are buying this watch off of an Amazon seller for 30% off retail, then you are likely getting a limited warranty. The seller I used, Watchsavings, has 2 year warranty but it only covers mechanical defects, not water damage. If you buy this watch for full price from Hamilton you get a 2 year warranty from that includes water damage...so that is likely what the extra $150 gets you. I have not tested the water resistance of this watch but from some other reviews it seems some folks have had issues even though it is rated to 50M, so I am being careful for now.All in all, after 10 days it seems like a solid, quality, pretty accurate mechanical watch that looks great, especially if you prefer watches that are on the simpler side and not too bulky or flashy.

Basically a vintage watch with new components
Im a avid watch collector. Ive always wanted this watch but ive always just passed on it saving for higher end pieces. Im really glad I finally got this piece. First i will talk about all the great aspects of this watch. This watch is extremely thin for a mechanical time piece due to it being a manual wimd watch. This doesn't sound like a huge deal but compared to a dive watch or a chronograph this watch disappears on your wrist and doesn't get hung up on clothing or smack things accidentally walking around. Due to this watches simplicity i believe it will be extremely durable and fills the role of a field watch nicely. This watch is also extremely legible with farely good lume. As for the movement this is hard to believe but the accuracy has been phenomenal. Ive timed it over a few days and its gains or looses about a second a day depending on how much it is wound. Accuracy will taper off during the end of its power reserve and it will lose about 5 seconds a day which is still fantastic for a watch at this price point. I own much higher end watches from omega and tudor that dont keep as accurate time as this watch when its fully wound. The build quality and finishing of the case is quite good. Also unlike many other value oriented brands the strap it comes on is high quality also. The bad aspect of this watch is it basically isnt water resistant at all. You cant shower with this watch on or even wash your hands with it really. Its basically like having a vintage watch with new components inside. If you can live with this than enjoy having a great watch. I will be wearing it during the colder months and out in the field hunting and fishing as its supposed to be used. If your into water sports like i am just remember to just wear a dive watch instead and leave this at home. Enjoy
