Amazing results
We have been using this with our dog for a little over a year and are very impressed! Prior to using this, a dental cleaning was recommended for our dog about once per year. Using this product (even a few times a week instead of the recommended once daily) worked on our dog's teeth well enough to push her recommended annual dental cleaning out to being once every other year. At our dog's most recent dental cleaning, her teeth were in the best condition in awhile and required no teeth extractions or other work! As a dentist and dog owner, I am very pleased with this product. Our dog loves when we sprinkle it on her food and as an added bonus, seems to enjoy eating her food more with it.

Highly Recommended, BUT....
"Proden Plaqueoff Animal," (by the way, there is also a Plaqueoff product for people), is used to control bad breath and to eliminate tartar and plaque in dogs and cats. It consists entirely of dried granulated seaweed - and it appears to work by changing the chemical make-up of your pet's saliva. As far as I know, nobody's critter has ever had an alergic reaction to the stuff, but if your pet is sensitive to iodine, Plaqueoff may not be a good idea. The Three Muske-Terriers, a male Westie, a male Cesky and the Empress-of-All-She-Surveys, a female Scotty have been "on" Plaqueoff for more than two years, (well, the Cesky since his adult teeth came in, so about a year). A daily dose is very small, so even a 60 gram cannister will last for several months. None of our dogs object to the taste, including the Westie, who is particularly finicky when it comes to food - we usually put it in a little "ball" of food, rather than sprinkling it over everything - the ball is always the first thing they eat.I think Plaqueoff is an excellent product and it is an important part of our terriers' "oral hygiene progam," BUT I don't think that it should be the whole program. If your pet will tolerate having his/her teeth brushed, I think you should do so - especially if their diet includes "processed" foods or table scraps. And whether or not you brush 'em, your pet's teeth should be examined by your vet or a qualified technician at least once a year. A set of pearly whites looks great - but it's not always indicative of oral health - it pays to have somebody who knows what they're doing check out your pet's mouth once in awhile, (this knowledge cost me 3 grand to learn - I give it to you for free).A final note on price: For your first time purchase, the small 60 gram container makes sense - that's more than enough to "test" the effectiveness of the product for yourself. But once you're convinced that it works, you should check out the 420 gram cannister. If properly stored, Plaqueoff will not spoil, and the larger container is often MUCH CHEAPER per gram.

Works good! Not a substitute for brushing.
This stuff isn't gonna work miracles as a substitute for actually getting your dog to chew their food and use their teeth, but it is a noticeable improvement to their plaque and breath even so. It's an addition to help their teeth, but it's not a substitute, if that makes sense. My dogs hate teeth brushing; I got them older and they hadn't had it before. So I use this, dental chews, and other lick things with fluoride in them to keep their teeth in as good of shape as I can manage. At the end of the day, convincing your pet to slow down and chew their food is the best bet to healthy teeth, and slow feeders are good for that, and dental chews, but I have two labradors, who see food and immediately lose all reason, so other stuff like this tarter stuff is needed. It does help, but it's not going to replace the need for being mindful of your pet's teeth. It does have a strange smell. My dogs don't mind it mixed into their food, but they're labs, and that breed eats anything. A picky eater might be wary.My biggest complaint though, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is the container itself. Its so tall and narrow-- smaller than the photo makes it look-- that it's hard to get the stuff out once you're halfway through the thing. I ended up buying another container to just dump the stuff into, but it sucks to have to do that when I'm already paying 20+ dollars for a pretty small thing.

Please don’t buy this — it nearly killed my dog.
I bought this thinking I was helping my dogs — I trusted the promise that it would improve their teeth and breath. I mixed it into their food just like the instructions said. For three days, everything seemed fine… until it wasn’t.On the third day, one of my dogs became seriously ill. She stopped eating completely. She looked weak, confused, and wouldn’t even lick her food. I’ve never seen her like that. I was terrified — watching her deteriorate right in front of me, and I couldn’t fix it.My other dog? His breath improved slightly, yes. But then he started acting off too. That’s when it hit me — the only thing we’d changed was adding this product. We stopped immediately. But the damage had already begun. My sick dog developed violent diarrhea, refused everything we offered — even water, treats, medicine. We were desperate. We tried pumpkin, probiotics, anything to get her system to recover. She wouldn’t even eat grass — her instincts were gone. I thought we were going to lose her.We dug into the reviews and realized we weren’t alone — and that made me even angrier. This product is dangerous. It should not be on the market. It should not be in homes. It should not be anywhere near the food of an animal you love. Please hear me: don’t gamble with your pet’s life. The vet bills aren’t even the worst part — it’s the fear. The helplessness. The heartbreak of not knowing if your best friend will make it through the night.I want my money back, but more than that, I want this pulled off the shelves. Pets are family. Don’t risk losing yours like I nearly did.
