A very different kind of Isekai
I'm now up to volume 11 of this series, and I'm a little torn between how to rate this. The first two volumes in the series and the story told between them is great. Later ones are up and down, mostly down. That said, what makes this series stand apart from other isekais is that it treats the battles as more realistic, with the main cast of characters not being overpowered -- even being underpowered compared to both the hostile creatures they come into contact with and their fellow "volunteer soldiers." I think that gives the fights a bit more weight, and the stakes feel a bit higher than in a series like SAO or Danmachi. I'd say the overall atmosphere is pretty dour on account of that, though it's not without a few touches of comic relief. The characters feel very well fleshed out here, although your mileage may vary in later volumes as to whether they get more flanderized or don't develop enough.Anyway, I feel pretty good about recommending the first two volumes for this series, at least. The anime was also done pretty well, and its first season ends at the same place as this volume.

DRM (kindle edition)
Unless you have a device registered to amazon and download it specifically for that device from here you can not read it. Only working kindles' in the house are registered to the wife so I can not read it on any of them.Otherwise story is great but finding a physical copy is a nightmare currently.

The Best: Grimgar? More please!
This series continues to impress me. It's fantastical, but real, a bit gritty, and feels authentic. The character's consciences (about killing other sentient beings even if they are "monsters") and emotions feel genuine. Maybe it's because I am of a similar age and have similar pesonal experiences that the author describes in their afterword, but the story and how it is told really resonates with me. I love how the characters are developing, and I like the direction the story is taking. I truly enjoy this series so far, far more than any other Light Novel series I have read previously. Thank you for writing this.

Really fun series.
Really enjoy this series. Started with the anime and liked is so much that the light novels were just as good. I am a sucker for a well told 'gamers/players get transported to a fantasy realm' type store and this fits the bill. Grimgar specializes in taking a very reasonable approach to what is happening. We don't follow the savants, we follow the average, every day people who struggle and do what they can to understand each other and get through each day.

This book is where the film adaption ends.
If you watched the film adaption of this light novel. You'll know that somewhere in these pages the book surpasses the film in terms of story progression. Ive watched the anime and it abruptly ended and never got signed on for a second season so I've been dying to find out what happens which is why I resorted to reading the light novel. It didn't disappoint.

Party coming together
After the events wrapping up nicely in volume 1, it's time to see some character growth in the party members. Haruhiro and friends find some new stomping grounds and with it, new adventures and hardships. The second volume gets to focus more on the new priest Merry and more details regarding her background.I feel that this novel had some good fight sequences, character development and strengthening of our favorite underdog party in Grimar. Some of te illustrations here were very well done and contributed greatly to the feel of the story.

Pg-13 not for young children
Anime was pg and even though only one season, my son (8) loved it. Saw that there was novelization of the series and bought some of the books, the first three. The books are most definitely pg13 and there was no kind of warning. Have had to skip over or summarize a few parts and not even a quarter of the way into the first book. Still a good series and I enjoy it enough that I'm still reading them to him.

A fantastic story of survival in a new world
Dangers and hardships abound the newly joined guild of five members, haruhiro the super timid and self conscious protagonist of this story , manato, ranta (annoyingly cool guy) lol, the super cute yume and shihoru among one other member who is the leader! This a great story with a slow introduction to this newfound fantasy world :)check it out!!

MARAVILHOSO

A great sequel
Truer to the themes of the anime than the also-good last volume, volume 2 offers a great look into the struggles of this party that is still trying to find some sort of footing for itself. The questions raised, the frustration and fears of the character's are so human, you can't help but feel for them. The result of their struggles is quite great learning experience, that only Grimgars Moody fantasy world can tell well.A great read

Excellent
