Does this kit come with everything you need to make one light up circuit, or would I need to purchase additional materials?

Yes, this kit comes with everything you need to make up to three light-up circuits, although it only has one battery so you can only light one of the three circuits at a time. You can choose which circuit to light up by clipping or unclipping the battery from the circuit.

What color are the lights?

The lights in the intro kit are white.

If i get additional batteries, can i use the three lights for separate cards? and what kind of battery should i purchase? thanks!

Yes, and the standard battery is a CR2032 battery.

Are there complete instructions included? I don't understand how the copper tape can be - or +.

Yes. You get complete instructions with the kit. It’s not necessarily that’s the tape is + or -, it’s just in how you set it up with the battery and attach each light. You have to have two separate lines of the copper tape, not overlapping, on to each end of the light, as the light has a positive and negative end. It’s easier to understand when you see the lights and the battery that comes with the kit.

Loved this beginner kit

Loved this beginner kit! It took me a minute to figure out how to use the copper tape, I actually went to Michaels and bought another roll of it to use for a project, but if all you want to do is find out how to set this up, it’s a great set and very user friendly!

It's not obvious from the project description, but there are 3 guided projects in the kit: 1) a star falling in a parachute, 2) a cupcake with a candle, and 3) a paper "helicopter" spinning light. There are 3 LED lights and enough copper tape to put together all 3 projects. It's a great kit to learn the basics of the system before investing in more lights and supplies.

We bought this for Christmas cards we made. It was complicated for an 8 yr old but we did it together. Grandparents were impressed. Kid thought it was cool. Circuitry was something I had to spend a moment on figuring out. Each sticker needs to touch 2 separate copper tape strips. Its not a daisy chain situation. I bought several other chibitronics items to work with in addition to this kit.

Great!

Great little kit for kids or adults. I bought this to use for a class assignment and it worked really well. Highly recommended for anyone who needs a simple, flat circuit.

I have wanted to try these and this was a good way to give it a shot

I wanted to try the light up technique with my cards and didn't want a major investment before I knew how hard it was to use and if I truly wanted to have some other technique. THis was a good way to try it. Now that I have I will invest in more products like this to add to another technique with my cards.

This is a cute little kit that I used for part of my son's science project demonstrating direct current. The three stars is primarily because of price. All of the Chibitronics led kits are rather pricy for what you get and do not handle being reused as well as they claim.

It never worked. Piece of garbage.

This item never worked. We followed all the directions, including all the troubleshooting tips like making sure the wires were perfectly flat, connecting to the right areas, etc., and neither of the bulbs lit up. This was for my son's project due the following day, so it was a major disappointment. So much for quality control. If you need a light for a project, maybe it is just cheaper and more reliable to just get a flashlight light bulb and connect a AAA or AA batter to it, like we used to do in the old days.
