It has what a beginner needs to start a nice Mead.
A little over priced but everything a beginner needs just to ferment. You will also need (not included in the kit) a siphon tube, bottles and a way to sterilize all the equipment and bottles. Not hard to do, just adds some expense. It is a good starter ferment kit though. Once you get some experience....it gets better. If you want to make honey wine it is a decent starting point as the recipe is solid. I suggest a hygrometer and a decent amount of research, YouTube is an invaluable asset.

Love this! Great little item, easy to use and would be a great gift. It's especially good in this cold weather, gives you something to do and when it's done something to warm you up!

Made amazing mead!
New mead maker and this kit helped to walk me through making my first batch of mead. Easy to use and assemble with a tight fitting seal. Glass was made of good quality and thick enough to handle the pressure buildup. Definitely recommend for new mead or wine makers.

Prison Mead no more!
My enterprising son had (seriously!) made homemade "prison mead" while on prison style lock-down in college dorm room... - using grocery store honey, bread yeast, and a washed out empty milk jug - he said it was not bad and did the job..we decided to upgrade a bit and try again - we got this kit, some good, organic honey from a local beekeeper, and some real food grade bottle sanitizer. We mixed up our first batch last night.TIPS - I did not realize this - but the mead - while completing fermentation in 2-3 weeks - is recommended to AGE for 4-6 months before drinking - we are looking forward to some at Christmas. This kit comes with enough yeast and yeast activator to make are least 3-4 gallon batches. (After our first batch ferments - we will decant it into bottles for aging, and mix up another batch so we can start a rolling stock.)My little prison brewer said it is recommended to add a little fruit to the mixture as well as food for the yeast and to improve flavor - he prefers raisins or lime peel.Sufficient honey to make the mead is not CHEAP - we spent about $30 for one batch - but hey, it is fun to be a mead moonshiner..When your kids reach adulthood, it becomes more challenging to find interesting things to do together. This is one of the projects we can share while they get older.BTW - since the mead is not ready yet, ratings are based on fun, not flavor
