I bought the Sealskinz beanie hat because my ears were tired of feeling like frozen peas every winter. Let me tell you, this hat is so warm and waterproof, I’m convinced it was knitted by a team of highly skilled otters. I wore it in a downpour and my head stayed drier than my sense of humor. Stylish enough for the city, tough enough for the wild, and apparently, it even makes me look 10% more outdoorsy (according to my mum). If you want to keep your noggin toasty and dry, and maybe even attract a few admiring glances from passing ducks, this is the hat for you!

I usually read the negative (1 & 2 star) reviews first and several people moaned about the noise the hat makes. All I can say is that they must have super senstive hearing because, whilst I could hear the slight crinkly noise, which I assume is made by the waterproof/breathable layer, it wasn't obvious or bothersome at all, and only then when you were putting the thing on. The hat is warm and well made and a bargain at what I paid on here for it (£17.50). I have a large-ish head at 61cm circumference but followed other people's advice and went for the L-XL rather than the largest one and it fits perfectly. I'm off with it for a spot of winter twitching!

The waterproof lining sounds like you have your head in a carrier bag. It's also very thick, so throws the proportions of your head out wearing it round town. Fantastic bit of kit on a wet hill walking though.

This is a very good quality hat. It is a very thick material and the sizing seems accurate. The price was reasonable for this apparently older version but I wouldn’t have paid the increased price for the newer version. I find that it’s very warm to wear so is only suitable for the very cold weather but everyone is different.

Had to return this - there's no way this could be accurately sized 'Large'. My bonce is 60 cm around so pretty damn big, but this beanie swamped me and was so thick it made me look like the Supermario character 'Toad'! Also, although it probably would be super warm and waterproof due to the membrane between the woolly and the fleece layers, the membrane does make a distinct 'crinkling' sound. Personally, I couldn't be doing with a hat with a soundtrack. It's all choice isn't it and I suppose it depends on how you want to look eg: Toad ! One last thing too - how come this was the only Sealskinz hat at half price - there's often a reason for 'bargains'.

Very warm and well made, a bit tight fitting. Haven't used in the rain or wet weather conditions yet
