No message or possibly too complex to understand
I didn't understand what message they were trying to communicate to their readers. Meh!

A new favorite.
I bought this as a birthday gift for my three year old granddaughter. She's been "reading" books since she could hold one in her hands, sometimes using her feet too. When she likes a book she asks for it to be read, over and over and over. This is the new favorite!

Great Name
I bought this book for my daughter after she read it in school. Mostly because since reading it a favorite game of ours is to give one another surprise spankings while yelling, 'I got you on Jabuti!'

Bright beautiful pictures!
This is a delightful tale that my almost 4 year old likes to hear night after night (along with her other Gerald McDermott books). She loves Jabuti's little poem, how the birds come to his aid, and that some get new colors in the process! The illustrations are extremely vivid and often the pages have extra animals or details hidden that my daughter likes to point out! The text is simple, yet descriptive so it keeps my child engaged. This was the 2nd book from this author that we introduced her to after Zomo the Rabbit.

Fun Books!
We love this author and all of his books. They are fun stories and the pictures are very colorful and catch the attention of my son. We are able to talk about the pictures and relate them to the stories. I would recommend all of Gerald McDermott's books.

Love this trickster tale. Great read-aloud.
Part of McDermott"s series of Trickster tales, this book is a great read-aloud with glorious illustrations. The pink background makes the rainforest colours sparkle, and the tale has hubris, jealousy, betrayal and redemption. One of my favourites.

A fable of hope
Jabuti the trickster tortoise gets conned into trusting the wrong bird and ends up broken on the rainforest floor. How he is put back together again signals hope for those who have hit a low point and those who help them mend again. Gorgeous illustrations.

colourful, delightful, enjoyable story
I read some reviews of the authors' pieces, and mostly picked the picture is beautiful, and story is excellent.Yes it is correct. I am lucky to find this book to read for my children. Fun to follow the story and found out how Jabuti got cracked his shell, and why vultures are not able to sing and with dull colour.
