Yes you can buy one or more but in sets its cheaper. Buy 2 sets of 4 and have 3 as spares in case you break one.

Q: what size drill bit does this need to make the hole for the stem to go into?

I drill a board with different hole sizes and use the one where the shiaft fits into tight.or snug.
