Jenny's Moonlight Adventure (Jenny's Cat Club)

A Good, But Very Short, Jenny Story
Jenny and the Cat Club: A Collection of Favorite Stories about Jenny Linsky (New York Review Children's Collection) is a wonderful introduction to Jenny and establishes her with style and grace. It's an excellent place to start, and has certainly made my little readers into Jenny fans.As I've expanded the Jenny library, though, I've learned to pay attention to the page info. "Jenny and the Cat Club" is an extensive collection of Jenny stories and is quite substantial for a young reader. Both The Hotel Cat (New York Review Children's Collection) and Jenny Goes to Sea are longer works. But, this present volume is barely a short story and had to be bulked out with big type and illustrations to reach 32 pages. The same is true for The School for Cats (New York Review Children's Collection) . So, you might want to be alert to that. That said, (and alert given), this story of Jenny's "Moonlight Adventure" is a fine addition to the series. You pretty much have to know who Jenny is and who the other characters are, though, because the episode just starts right up. Jenny volunteers to perform a dangerous task in order to help a fellow cat and has to use her guile and all of her resources to pull it off. For a young reader the story is suspenseful and satisfying. And, the tale is written in a clear and direct fashion that allows it to be suspenseful and yet readily manageable by a newer and younger reader. That's quite an accomplishment, and has always struck me as one of the great appeals of the whole Jenny series. The upshot is that Jenny is a very engaging character, her stories are vivid and instructive, and her appeal to young readers is unassailable. A very nice find, and very much likely to please your newly confident chapter book reader. Please note that I purchased this book from Amazon with my very own money and have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.

Jenny is a cat for the ages-- all ages!
I first encountered Jenny Linsky back in my childhood, which was... well, never mind how long ago. I remembered a picture book and Jenny's little red scarf. I really didn't recall much else. Recently I found a paperback copy of a Jenny adventure and was totally charmed so I ended up buying the entire set. I spent a very happy couple of hours immersed in Jenny's world. These little books have stood the test of time. Oh, I think there are some who will say that they're too innocent but I don't think so. Jenny deals honestly with some negative situations such as jealousy in a way that we can all relate.I've gone back and read some children's books and discovered they really didn't hold up so well. I may get some thumbs down, but there are Pooh stories that I now find way too precious to be enjoyable. Jenny's stories seem more simple but I found them to be emotionally sound and comforting.I don't give a lot of five star reviews, but Jenny gets one!

Cute story
It’s a cute story and the illustrations are nice. I bought it as something fun to read to my daughter for Halloween, that wasn’t scary. BUT it’s overpriced. It’s a very short story. For the price I expected a much longer story, maybe even a chapter book. I won’t be purchasing any more at this price point.

Most memorable book of my early childhood
I checked this book out of my school library when I was in third grade, and loved it so much I was inconsolable at the thought of having to return it. My parents spent an entire evening driving all over town trying to find a copy for me. Thank goodness I found it years later on Amazon.com.It has all the elements of a great children's book - cats, a plot with a beginning, middle, and end, and a moral lesson that isn't in your face. The illustrations are great and there are a number of different personalities that any reader could relate to. If you have children in early elementary school, or for that cat-lover in your life of any age, buy this book and all the others in the Jenny series!

Great series from years ago for children
I finally found my favorite childrens book when I was a kid in the sixties. So sweet and innocent. Bought several in this series.

Slim but charming Jenny and the Cat Club book
Another beautifully written and delightfully empathetic Jenny story, reprinted for today's little reader to enjoy. This is a slim volume, but builds on Averill's normal themes of choosing to be brave, friendship and curiosity.

Great book
This is the second book bought by this author for my granddaughters birthday. It arrived promptly, well in time and she thinks it is brilliant.

I chose this book over 30 years ago in grade one because it had my name and I liked cats. To see it again after all this time was magical.
