Golden Gate GB-3 Deluxe 5-String Banjo Bridge

Nice bridge, brighter sound.

I had to widen/deepen one of the slots to keep the string in place.......but it works pretty well.

Nice little bridge. Used it to upgrade on an”cheap” model 5 string banjo. Going from 5/8 to 1/2 in brought it a little closer to the tailpiece to find the “sweet spot” on mine but really let’s it ring with good sustain for that classic bluegrass twang! Will probably get another as a back up—maybe try the 5/8 inch later but for now it works great. No angle to it so you will need to identify front and back side or if you make any modification to accommodate for the bigger D string you will be able to see it when putting it back on. I didn’t take any of the slots down but did run a file through them to make sure they were smooth and put a pencil to the slots and the nut. The D string sits slightly higher in the slot but seems to be pretty secure. I would recommend leaving them if you can so there is no worry about putting it in “backwards” when you need to take it off. Happy picking!

Needed one for my binjo works

I will say, this is a very nice bridge and it plays well. However it only plays well after you fix whatever was done to it before. Mine came with some slots grooved in for the strings, but they were a bit too large and 3/4 of the strings buzzed a bit. No big deal, I filed them a bit and got it ok. Now, one of the bone inserts was slotted way to wide and deep, resulting in the string simply laying across the frets. I had to make a small slot just next to it, and it works ok.I'm short, I would've rather just gotten it without any slots if you can't do them decently. But aside from that I am very happy with the product itself.

I get a weird buzz on middle g string with this one. It is however league's above the one that came with my cheap chinese made banjo. I still recommend getting it between that and the bronze phosphor or whatever they were strings it really made it sound like a much better banjo. Make sure you know what size bridge you need I had to order 2 because the first was too short

So easy to change out. It help drop my strings to a better height. Love the new sound.

Arrived quickly and decently packaged though it could have used a piece of cardboard in the bubble wrap to help protect it from damage in shipping. I got a banjo for Christmas because I wanted to learn how to play. It was a cheap, used one and the bridge was really high, so I got this one which was 1/4" lower. Made it a lot easier to play. I'm no expert in the sound, so can't say it made it sound much better than the old one. I suspect that the strings are supposed to lay dead center of the white knockouts, but as you can see, a few are a tiny bit off. Doesn't make a difference to me, but if you're a pro, it might. As I don't know if it is a flaw or not, I still give it 5 stars.
