I use it to split pills that are pretty small maybe 40 mm in diameter. It works best if you carefully push the pill right down to the fulcrum of the cutter, it has a slightly soft rubberized surface which works pretty well to hold the pill in place. This is the second one I bought, the first one was a little off-center, but the second one works perfectly. It's cheap enough that I will keep buying. The razor blade inside doesn't last forever so you eventually will have to buy another one.

My doctor asked me to take half of the prescribed dose of a certain RX Med, so I had to try to cut the pills in half as evenly as possible with a nail clipper, that I first cleaned with an alcohol wipe. Then I saw this pill cutter/splitter on Amazon and decided to give it a go. The pills that I need to split in half are very small, and at first each pill would not stay securely in its place, resulting in an uneven cut. Then, I tried tilting the pill cutter to the left, so that it was on an incline. Once I did that, I got the desired result, and each pill was evenly cut in half. For a very long time, I've had a pill crusher but it never occurred to me to get a pill splitter, but I am glad that I did.

So, I wanted to have a good pill cutter that I could use to halve my pills. (obviously) I gravitated toward this one because it has the little rubber finger gripper that would seem to make it easier to grip when cutting. "Cool!", I thought. It gets here, I'm excited to use it because I'm waiting to try to wean off of a medication and I'm anxious to get that going. You know? Anyway, I read the back of the package, because I'm a nerd like that, and I took it out. Seemed ok. The gripper was grippy, felt and looked a little strange. Smelled like it was flammable, but whatever. I put my pill in, lined it up, pushed in down..aaannnnd nothing. It didn't even score the pill. I thought maybe I was missing something. Was there some kind of blade cover? Well, there is a flimsy piece of plastic inside the cutter itself, I thought maybe that was the problem. I tried to remove it. Nope, it doesn't come off. Plus, I watched the mechanism at work, and the plastic slid under when you closed it. Pretty sure it's just there so you don't cut your fingers off when loading the pill. So, I tried again. And nothing. I re-adjusted the pill toward the middle of the cutter. I squeezed down as hard as I could and it finally cut the pill. But it cut it into a million pieces, mostly powdery pieces. Which sucked because then I had to take a pill that was basically like tasting BC powder times 50. So gross. I didn't want a crushed pill! In addition, the same rubber grip that is on the outside it on the inside where the pill sits. Which you'd think would just hold the pill better, but since it destroyed my pill into shreds, it basically ended up being a rubber grip full of powdery pill bits. Basically, the point of my story is this; don't purchase this. It's useless. Spend a few extra bucks and get a better one. Don't trust the grippy bits, they're a gimmick. Now I'm stuck with a piece of useless plastic. I don't even want a refund, I just want to forget this ever happened.

I really enjoy using this cutter. It feels sturdy, substantial in hand compared to the last one I purchased which was flimsy and fell apart the first time I used it. So glad I purchased this one.

This pill cutter did not last it broke so I paid $6.95 and it broke. Terrible cutter. I want my money back!!

This is the second time purchasing. The blade on the original was dull after 6 years. It’s large enough for people with arthritis to hold and use. There is a moveable plastic guard that covers the blade when the top is open.
