An old tale, with much relevance to today in the E.U. with the influx of unpredictables on their own mission...
Terrific story...if you REALLY want to know how to re-use and recycle, talk to a "Motie". Um. If you can. There are so many "digs" against what this modern human world has become, and yet we still will not listen to these prophetic writers. The "Moties" are so warlike when their "blood is up", they will not listen to reason, the only way to stop them is to "Line them up against the wall, and shoot the um...fellows". Remind you of a certain war against terrorists in the world, anyone? Excellent read. The Moat Around Murcheson's Eye (the sequel), is also very good, but a bit frenetic...which may also be prophetic...we will have to wait and see...

It was great to read it again
Not read this for many years. It was great to read it again, recognising the characters and enjoying the storylines. The only caveat I'd say is over the writing of the human gender roles, perhaps things have moved on a bit since then - though it might have been necessary to emphasis the description of these in order to explore the differences in the alien gender roles.....

A good sci-fi but not as great as I expected
A good sci-fi but not as great as I expected. It's interesting, well written, has good exploration of the ideas of the universe and their consequences, but I wouldn't say it's THE BEST sci-fi novel I've ever read. Well worth reading, but doesn't quite live up to what I thought it might be from what I'd heard about it.

Mote In God's Eye - Review
I have read this novel several times in the past. It is simply the best science fiction work I have ever come across.Recently I discovered the senior librarian at my local town library is a science fiction addict and she had never heard of this title, so I bought it as a gift for her to enjoy. No report yet!
