Yes that is what I use it for. My toddler loves to take out all his toys and get carried around in it. It's surprisingly well made.This basket pretty big, fits a good amount of blanket that always end up all over the living room!

Will the color fade or not?

Maby not,I don’t think so.Just don’t leave it in direct sunlight.

can this hamper be washed?

I highly doubt it. I would just spot clean with a rag.

Are they machine washable?

I don't think this basket is machine washable. I can't find any kind of laundry instructions on it, and I think it would completely lose it's shape if it went through a full machine laundry cycle.
