Mentaiko's second collection finally released! Hot and sexy bara action returns.
Itto Mentaiko is my favorite bara manga author. I love his style from his artwork to his storytelling. After purchasing his first published work for the west titled “Priapus” released in 2015, I was very happy to purchase his second collection of stories. His second book is titled “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” and contains 3 stories: Hamu and The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Holy Night and As Swift as Lightning. Between his two books, this new one is smaller only because there are less stories this time around which I was surprised with the publisher “Bruno Gmunder”. I know Mentaiko has a few stories that might not transition well in the west but I know he has plenty of others stories that could have been used for the second book but the publisher decided not to.The artwork in this book is great as usual just like the first book especially his first two stories: Hamu and The Boy Who Cried Wolf and Holy Knight. But the last story published in this book, “As Swift as Lightning” is one of Mentaiko’s earlier works, so the art style definitely looks different than his current art style, which is understandable with most manga artist/authors, since their art develops and changes overtime. The last story is still good but you will easily notice a difference in the art style. Just like the first book, this book is huge compare to your typical manga with big panels. Also Mentaiko’s art is uncensored again which is great! And last this book is translated in English even though the publisher is German. So definitely pick this book up if you were a fan of Mentaiko’s first book and/or you are a bara fan!

A personal fave
Mentaiko Itto is one of the more well known creators of "Bara" (gay) manga, and is possibly my personal favorite. While most Yaoi (boys love) manga is actually written by women for a female audience, Bara is written by gay men, for gay men. As such, the art style tends to be more masculine, and the stories are often hyper-sexualized fantasy. Not for the faint of heart!VERY difficult to find Bara manga in both print AND English. If you can get your hands on any, they are a great addition to a queer library!

1 A Yaoi

Wish There Was A Sequel
I love this mangaka's work. His art is fabulous--realistic, and the first story was thought provoking. I wish there was a sequel.

An accurate and honest portrayal of being closeted in Japan as well as an overall immersive read
Mentaiko doesn't disappoint, not only is Boy who cried wolf sensual and erotic but delivers a heartwarming outlook on what it means to be gay and in the closet in Japan.Boy who cried wolf is touches on what it means to be gay and in the closet in Japan as well as the implications of being open about it, as well as how your friends would react. Subjects like these are rarely tackled in BL and if they are they're usually hand-waved aside and never really explored or dealt with. Aside from the unique and touching story, Mentaiko also presents us with beautiful, detailed art with well-drawn and handsome men and erotic scenarios.Alongside the story of Boy who cried wolf there is also two stories, one being a more smutty story about two boys who can't get dates and end up having sex and well as another story set in the samurai age.Overall, I very much recommend anyone interested in good BL/Bara to give this manga a shot.

Mehr LGBT als jeder Yaoi
The Boy Who Cried Wolf besteht aus drei Kurzgeschichten.
