However it would be a good choice for most women
This book has a lot of interesting and thought provoking poems that many women can relate to. I bought this for a family member who had been sexually assaulted and looking through it before giving it to her, I felt that several of them would help her start to process it. However it would be a good choice for most women, not just survivors. I found myself to nodding along when reading several of the poems that describe growing up and experiencing life as a you change from a girl to a woman.A few of the themes are maybe a bit advanced for some younger readers. I suspect it would be ok for most high school aged and there are certainly some middle school girls who could handle it as well. I'm a teacher and there are no themes or subjects in here that are not in many books available in most high school libraries - but then I do teach in a fairly liberal area. However I'd certainly look through it before giving it to anyone under the age of about 13 or so to make sure they are mature enough to handle some of the more adult themes. Even with older teens, be prepared for the possibility that some of the poems might lead to some heavy conversations.Overall I found this to be an empowering, thought provoking, and relatable collection of poetry and I suspect most women would enjoy this book.

Powerful book is NOT for young teens
I spent about an hour browsing this book after receiving it yesterday and I've decided it is just not appropriate for my daughter at this time. The sex, drugs, and risky behavior was just too much for me to feel comfortable handing it to a young teen. It talks about dropping acid, has very explicit descriptions of sexual interactions, and many references to rape and other forms of abuse. I do see value in the book and will hold onto it until my daughter is quite a few years older. The language and imagery are powerful and empowering and will (hopefully) open the door to talking about some complicated topics with my daughter when she is older.

Worth buying to share.
Some very thoughtful poems with messages that all teen girls should hear. Some poems however may be too 'indirect' for most young women to understand.

but the students seem to like the newer style poetry
Bought this for my speech team to use. Some material not school appropriate, but the students seem to like the newer style poetry.

My teenage feeeeeels
GUYS this collection is so so so so wonderful. Full disclosure - I am not a 'girl', I am 27 years old but this book is still relevant hardcore to my teenage girl feels that never really go away. Perfect words, some I find are even better read aloud (Andrea Gibson is the master of spoken word as you probably know) if you get the home alone time to PREACH it! :) Thanks for this collection. I'm in love.
