Fabulous novel and historically accurate
De Wohl's Set All Afire is a fun read, is historically accurate, gives one a sense of the sixteenth century world and shows how one man positively transformed both individuals and societies by his commitment to set the world on fire with the love of the Lord. One of the most enjoyable novels I have ever read.

Learned so much!
I learned so much about St. Francis Xavier and his incredible missionary work by reading this book. Parts of the book were slow and maybe a little too detailed, but the book gave a fantastic description to what the journey by boat from Portugal to India was like in Francis Xavier's time - it's amazing he was able to survive the journey!

Interesting well written read
Although a novel, this book gives historical context to the life of a saint. It is very easy to read and well written. It fills a void for non-scholarly readers giving life to the saint's story

DeWohl's finest?
Of the six or seven DeWohl books I've read, I think 'Set All Afire' is the most enduring. In it, DeWohl employs his usual style of 'historical fiction' where he weaves fictional dialogue and details into the factual framework of St. Francis Xavier's life. And this is no ordinary life. St. Francis was a brilliant european university student who bumped into St. Ignatius. His subsequent conversion and missionary journey to the far east is the stuff of legends. Under constant threat, he converted entire islands to Christianity and penetrated walls no westerner had ever crossed.DeWohl captures the essence of Xavier so effectively that it feels as though you know the saint personally. And the story is written in such an engrossing manner that you lose yourself in the journey. The pages begin to blur into each other and the twists and turns become alternately joyous and haunting. When is the last time you burned the midnight oil to read about a saint?Highly Recommended without reservation.

On Fire with Love for GOD
I have bought this book for many friends. This is one of my favorite deWohl historical novels and he is one of my favorite authors. The first time I finished it, tears rolled down my face. I just wanted to go to Heaven ALL THE MORE to be in the company of St. Francis Xavier with my heart burning with love for Jesus Christ as his did....this Saint helps me LOVE GOD MORE.

Lemon printing of this book
I’ve purchased a lot of books on Amazon and I just opened this one up (a month after purchasing it) to find out the printing of the book is totally flawed and much off the page so this book isn’t legible. I bought two versions of it, one as a gift, and now trying to find out if the second copy had the same issue. Hey Amazon, need some more quality control on those books you ship. This one is a lemon.Really wanted to read it as well. But amazon’s return policy says it is too late to return it so I’m stuck with a worthless purchase here.

Great book for middle schoolers
All the Louis de Wohl books are great for historical fiction about saints. Loved this book about St. Francis Xavier. What an interesting journey this saint made before he became a priest. Amazing man after becoming a priest. Converted so many people with so little resources. Made incredible journeys in his pursuit of spreading the faith.

Louis de Wohl writes lively and engaging historical fiction. ...
Louis de Wohl writes lively and engaging historical fiction. The details he provides about his characters and their times draw the reader into the lives of saints whose example kept this reader in awe. This book is imbued with faith and fidelity to a calling which mocks our contemporary search for comfort. Well worth the read — if you can take the challenge.
