Good quality tool and packaged well
This one arrived undamaged in its proper Dewalt box within a well packaged plain outer box..excellent. Usual DeWalt neat and robust build. There is some free play in the chuck as noted by every reviewer of this model (Dewalt fault), but it does not affect operation…and may actually (unintentionally) aid getting fastners in against a tight corner where the tool body might otherwise hit the workpiece..NB: This item is provided as a bare tool, no batt or charger. You DO get a belt clip and bit magnet to add to the side (How some people expect an included batt costing more than the tool is beyond me)..Tested all modes of operation without problem. The low torque setting (no1, with the screw picture on the selector switch) fails to drive screws deeper than about 2cm, but should be fine for assembling small machine screws in sheet steel cases or fixing small parts like cabinet hinges. Setting 2 and 3 provide serious torque…so it is up to the user to release the trigger when the fastner looks to be depth set as required..I shall not test mine to destruction, but the DCS 887 can drive 8-10 inch M12 Lag bolts without a pilot hole…At a whopping 205 Nm, probably more oomph than needed even to bolt up Flitch beam joists and way more than regular tradey framers and home woodworkers need..The prime advantage over screwing with drill drivers is impact drivers don't tend to cam-out posidrive screws…but they are not ideal for masonry drilling, or chucking up bits other than 1/4 drive. If you need to do more than driving screws/bolts you might consider choosing a drill driver instead…If you have the coin get both tools :).Overall, the DCS 887 at under £60 GBP is fantastic value for money, and the incoming Dewalt upgrade with 1% more torque (207 Nm), doesn’t give you any necessary advantage imo. At this price it is well worth adding to your tool box even if you don’t need it right away.(Reviewed without prejudice or favour and I paid for this tool myself)

Great piece if kit.
Never thought I needed an impact driver but I took a gamble and bought it to build my decking. It was a great tool to use. I've built a lot of projects over the years and now wish i'd bought one years ago. I've always uesd my dewalt battery drill but this is by far a better tool to use. Get yourself a good set of impact bits the long ones, about 57mm. I've converted to using torx screws, slightly more expensive but worth the extra as they work well with an impact driver.

DeWALT DCF887N Impact driver.
Very powerful impact driver on settings 2 & 3 , normal drill use on no.1 setting without damage to materials. No play in the bit collet at all and the weight is just about right for prolonged use.I use a 5ah battery on mine and the balance is just great, the 3 let's lights are very good too, compared to my other impact driver this totally outguns it & it was more expensive, I managed to get this dewalt on a deal from amazon canf fault it, can recommend.

Very good tool with some grey areas
I have multiple Dewalt tools and batteries so I bought this impact driver because I saw it is as good or even better in certain parameters than the latest version from Dewalt but it cost much less right now.In general it is a very good tool, it does the job quite well and it has an impressive torque in the higher setting. It will cover most of your needs but I would like to highlight the elements that I didn't enjoy so much. I'll try to enumerate them so you can evaluate if those are a real problem for you or not.- Size, in terms of size it is too big for current standards. A few days ago I needed to use it in a narrow (less than 20cm wide) space and it was just big enough to not allow me to use it. I had to make some strange arrangements with adapters and so to use it in a certain angle. Quite messy and a lot of work... Dewalt new model, as well as others in the market are much shorter and would have worked fine.- Power stepping, the machine has 3 power settings. The first one just screws, the second and the third ones work like a proper impact driver. The problem is that the gap of power between setting one and two is huge. The first one is not strong enough in some situations but the second one is much, much overpowered for those same tasks. It would need to have 4 or 5 settings so you can find the right one for each job. You need to be extra careful in this situation and don't go too hard on the higher setting or you will destroy everything (remember that this thing has a very high torque).

Packs a punch for its size - best power tool I’ve got
One of the best tools I’ve ever brought, was a little bit hesitant to buy it initially, didn’t have a specific use for it, but brought it for odd little jobs. It’s turned into one of my most used tools. I got some 6mm hex to 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 square drive adapters, and it’s surprisingly powerful for socket work and mechanical wrenching as well as it’s main purpose, driving screws and coach bolts. Extremely light and will go all day without using much battery at all.The three modes mean it can be used as a screwdriver for taking apart delicate things, driving screws and wrenching on cars and tractors. It’s so convenient to carry around in a toolbox because of the weight and that also makes it nice to use - it’s weighted very well.Drilling with it is good too, you can buy drill bits with a 6mm hex that are special impact driver drill bits. This makes it hugely versatile and nearly a complete replacement to a cordless drill. It will never torque out of your hand because it impacts instead, making it much more user friendly for driving screws and drilling large holes such as 12mm even through thick steel.I’ve never managed to defeat it driving a screw or even large coach bolt.11/10 would buy again.
