Amazon Basics Waterproof Rooftop Cargo Carrier Bag,15 Cubic Feet, Black

After looking at several car top carriers and reading reviews I chose this carrier, and to be honest I chose one of the cheaper (in price) toppers. Not bad at all!This carrier has eight tie down straps that are sewn to the bag, two in the front, two in the back, and two on each side. The straps are nice and long. I adjusted them where I wanted them and then wrapped the excess with some duct tape which I then tucked under the carrier. This way no noisy flapping loose ends.I really liked the zipper cover. It’s nice and wide and covers the zipper completely.The most important thing to me was that nothing got wet! This thing worked great! Overnight rain storm in New Mexico, nothing wet.Travel on the highway was great. I checked the straps and seams daily because I have had less than pleasant results from other carriers.For the price this carrier is a great deal. It’s very durable, it’s held up very well, and most importantly, it’s water resistant.It does have the Amazon logo on the front and back, but that doesn’t bother me. What I wanted was something that would hold up on long road trips and that would keep my stuff dry, but wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Bought this to use on our roadtrip. My husband wanted one of the hard aerodynamic cases that lock, but they are so expensive. I found this for much cheaper, he didn't like it at first saying it looked like a garbage bag on top of the car. But after stuffing it full of camping gear and driving many miles through rain, sun and dust he finally acknowledged that it was very useful and the cheaper price allowed us to spend more on souvenirs. Installing it was easy and taking it down simple. It can be folded back into its bag and stored in the closet when not in use. It fits a lot of stuff, we packed 3 sleeping bags, tent, air mattress, 2 large blankets, bags of clothes, 3 camp chairs and a camp table in the bag. Saved so much space in the car. It does not look as neat and tidy as the picture, the fabric is never that taught and perfectly rectangular. But it did great protecting our stuff, nothing got wet in the rain and it stayed attached to the car, barely noticed it was there.

The material the bag is made of seems really sturdy and high quality. I tested on 2 short 2 hour trips and there were no real signs of wear. The carry bag provided has ample room and is surprisingly good quality.It rained during the trip, but I did not leave the bag on the car. I think people misunderstand that the bag is only water proof in transit and when mostly full so water can not pool. If you allow water to pool on top of the bag, it will definitely leak into the seams, even if they are sealed. If you are stopping for any length of time during your trip and it is raining, be sure water can not pool on top of the bag, beneath it, and especially near the seams.I'm giving it 4 stars because it is not designed well for use without a cargo basket. If you only use rails, you are left with a set of straps that cannot be tied down in the correct direction. For example, if you have side rails, the front and back straps of the bag are not used an must be tied down in an ad hoc manner to prevent flapping. They can not be removed and pulling them across to the side rails will create tension on the strap attachment point in the wrong direction and eventually tear the bag. Other bags I have seen have solved this problem by allowing you to remove the straps that are not being used.Overall, I'd recommend, especially if you have a cargo basket.

Not sure why it took us two years to discover a way to transport all of my child's stuff to college in one trip. Happened to be on the road one day and say someone with this bag and the light bulb went off. Affordable, durable, convenient, and easy to use. I used a small stool to help me position the empty bag on the roof (I'm only 5'4) and then filled it and secured it. Easy and simple instructions and bag never moved during our travels (average driving speed 70mph for about 2 hours). Our car does have side and cross bags and used every strap to secure it. No rain during our trip so can't comment on that feature.

Used this to increase the storage capacity of our Hyundai Kona for travel softball and we are glad we purchased! I never leave reviews but was so impressed with this I needed to!We drove from Northern Pennsylvania to New Jersey in a torrential downpour driving 80mph. It rained so hard we almost had to pull over because visibility was terrible but our gear stayed dry!! Minimal dampness on the exterior of one suitcase that was against the zipper. We then drove to Maryland, and then back home to PA. No issues, easy to use and pack up! We did buy a mat for the roof to prevent scrapes but we didn’t see much shifting of the storage bag throughout the trip so likely not necessary.Only cons we found were the straps did take a while to tighten around the gear to keep it secure but would not deter me from buying again!

Primarily due to the low price (I paid $42), I was a bit skeptical. Especially since some other roof top carriers cost around $400+. The quality of this bad is amazing! The bag seems super sturdy and solid. When I was driving 80+ mph on the freeway the bag wasn’t even moving or blowing around, not even the slightest! The straps and buckles are thick and solid and easy to adjust. Once I got the straps adjusted the first time, there’s been no need to re-adjust. I think it is helpful to have the bag loaded up to prevent your stuff from shifting around, but if it wasn’t fully loaded, it was still be okay. I have this bag secured to a Yakima LoadWarrior rooftop basket which pairs perfectly (see photos). I haven’t tested this in the rain yet, but it seems like it would hold up great if you position it the correct way on top of your vehicle (this bag is directional and should be positioned the right way). It has waterproof zippers and there is an extra flap that folds over the zipper that Velcros down.
