Who knew that a $49 watch selling for $10, I did. I have previously purchased a number of these watches with the funny name of Sapphero. They are made by Benyar which also makes the Pagani Design watches. Not sure what the ownership part is, but these watches are quality watches.This one is all stainless steel case and back, the Benyars are chrome plated brass or copper. It has a hardened mineral crystal, which has unexpectedly AR, anti reflective coating. Which is a very light bluish coating and the dial can be read easily in bright sunshine. Unexpected, because it is not listed. Not common on many watches.The movement is a Seiko clone by Sunon. The bezel is, I believe ceramic, because it is very resistant to scratching and does not have that metallic ring when tapped. Unexpected beause it is not listed. The band is leather, which is kind of weird for a Diver Watch. I have added a metal band instead.What I really like is the watch is water resistant to 100meters or 10 ATM, just like the Pagani Designs. While, the Benyars which look similar are rated for 3 ATM meters or 30 meters. Yeah, I know, leather band for a watch rated for 100 meters in water. There is a tachymeter inside the watch compartment, but it is decorative because the large second hand does not function as stopwatch, just the small hand in the 6 o'clock sub dial.The reason for the large discount is that the watches now ship with a dead battery. The Sunon movement is more power hungary than the Seiko one, and only lasts for about 2 years. All of a sudden a lot of the Sapphero and Benyar watch inventory had dead batteries and Amazon experienced a large amount of returns. Evident from the recent reviews. Rather than ship them back to China for big loss, Benyar-Sapphero decided to heavily discount the watches down to $9.99.It cost about $10 to install a new battery, or you can purchase the battery 371 or SR920SW for less than $1 each and do it yourself with a screw back remover tool. Once you install the battery and it begins working, check out the chronograph functions and the day date.To adjust the time pull the crown out to position two and spin the hands until it date changes. Now you are on AM time. Set the time and push the crown back in. Then pull it out to postion one, which allows you to advance the day date.This next happens with all quartz chronographs when you change the battery, the hands do not line up. Easy fix. 1) To line up the 1/20 second hand: pull the crown out to position 2, the top pusher button which will now control the subdial. When lined up push back the crown to lock in the position. 2) To line up the second and minute dials, pull crown out two postion 2 and use the bottom pusher button. The second hand dial controls the minute dial. Hold the button down allowing the second dial to continously cycle until you get the hand on the minute dial to line up, then do the same with the second dial. If you miss it, try again, you will get the hang of it. Push the crown back in and everything is good.At $9.99 I could not resist and bought four of them. If you want one without having to put in a battery, they are available for $39.99. There is a newer one which has a tachymeter bezel instead of a diving bezel for $39.99 to $49.99.The watch stacks up very well to my Pulsars and Seikos, but for the price of a sandwich. Go figure. So if you are undecided, give this model a chance. New note: November 2023, this model is no longer made. The replacement has a tachymeter bezel instead of the elapsed time.
