Original tool-less tensioner would not keep the chain tight. This replacement works great!

Kinda pricey for a molded plastic cover with a roughly-fitting tensioner, but does the job. Replaced the funky cover on a "tool-less" saw with the tensioner rack and pinion gizmo in the bar, allows using other standard bar/chain sets, and works a lot better than the old Poulan/Craftsman tool-less design. For the price, this should at least include the nuts needed to mount it to the saw (which are not used in the tool-less cover). For Craftsman branded saws, you might need to slightly modify the saw or cover because the rear dowel/locating pin molded into the cover and the pin's recess in the saw body don't line up. I opened up the saw recess (cheese-like plastic) to allow the cover to fit and it works great.

I have a PP3516AVX which had the quick adjust bar tensioner. The tensioner broke and would not keep the bar tight. The repair parts were discontined. I took a chance on this part to convert the tensioner to the older/newer style. The cover fit perfectly. Just make sure you buy the nuts to attach the cover to the saw.

I have had a Poulan PP4218AVX for several years and it was nearly useless because of the poorly designed chain tightening/loosening device which came on the saw when I purchased it. I have tried replacing the plastic gear in the device without success (don't waste your time and money). This product (Poulan 545012203) fixed my saw so that I can now use it. Unfortunately, It does not come with the chainsaw bar nuts to secure it on to the saw. They have to be obtained separately.

this cover works better than the one that originally came with the saw. The tensioner works great.

Perfect match to convert my tool-less PP4218AVX. The chain kept getting loose, so after studying parts diagrams, I determined that this part should work to convert it to the regular style with the two bolts and the adjuster screw. Works perfectly.I do wish it came with the two nuts for the bolts, though. I had to order them from eBay for like $5 because I could find any non-serrated flange nuts at my hardware store.
