Daily Roman Missal, Third Edition

THE DAILY ROMAN MISSAL edited by Father James Socias is a well organized informative Missal. The Missal is well made, and the editor(s)and publishers produced a Missal that is well bound and has legible print for easy reading.This Missal is useful for devout, older Catholics. The Missal has devotions for the Mass and for private use. The editor(s)gave clearly written explanations to novices on how to use the Missal with a "code" on abbreviations that are used in the text. The Missal contains a listing of the biblical readings for the liturgical years (cycles A, B,and C).For traditional Catholics who appreciate the Tridentine Mass, this Missal was published for them. The texts are in Latin and English. The translations, as far as this reviewer knows, are accurate. The division of the Missal into the liturgical seasons such as Advent, Lent, the Triduum, Easter Season, and Ordinary Time is concisely explained and helps enhance an understanding of Catholic Liturgial Calendar.The guides for the Order of the Roman Canon of the Mass and the Eucharist Prayers make this Missal easy to use if one attends a Tridentine Mass which is still celebrated especially in urban areas. There are guides for the Sacrament of Confession which can be used for traditional Catholics and those who are used to the Mass since Vatican II.The Missal has a more recent Proper of the Saints which surprised the undersigned. The addition of saints since the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II is astounding and may be already badly out of date. The rituals for Common Masses and Ritual Masses are clearly explained. The categories of Votive Masses and Requiem Masses are explained and gives precice instructions on the reasoning of these Masses.The section re devotions and private/family prayers is surprisingly comprehensive. For those who may consider classes to be received into the Catholic Church, the section on prayers and devotions is a valuable aid. Those who want a continuous prayer life will find this section useful and almost exhaustive.The Missal has appendices for optional readings that can be used to find what may be difficult elsewhere. This Missal has sections that can help those who follow the Catechism. The illustrations in this Missal are visual aids that may make the text more instructive.This DAILY MISSAL can be used for those who prefer the Tridentine Mass as well as the Mass since Vatican II. The text and explanations clarify what may not be clear to Catholics who want to know more about the Faith as well those not familiar with Catholicism. This Missal is exactly what I was looking for. Purchased one for my Mom for Christmas, and also received one for myself as a gift. This is my 1st Missal, but feedback from my Mom who has used others in the past (most recently a St Joseph's Sunday Missal) is that this is very easy to use especially when compared to the St Joseph's.My observations:The cover is nice burgundy leather-like with gold foil printing. The binding is solid with gold-gilded pages, with plenty of ribbons. Very attractive book.The font is excellent, easy to read. No issues with printing as a previous poster described; maybe they got a misprint? I don't have a lot of experience using a Missal, but I am having no problems navigating the Mass with this version; it seems well laid out.My primary reason for wanting the Missal was to be able to keep up with the new translation. It is nice to be able to read the readings ahead of time and also to gain a better understanding of the Mass celebration. This Missal is packed with plenty of 'extras' as other reviewers have mentioned.At the time a Sunday only Missal was not available, but I wasn't looking for that. This Missal is a little big (thick) since it contains the weekday Masses as well.I have not found any errors yet; it seems very accurate with the newest V. 3 translation. Both my Mom and I are really happy with our gifts. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a complete Missal with the newest translation in an attractive book!

I have owned several Missals over the years and this one, is by far, the very best. So far it appears to be free from even the smallest error (like typos). It is easy to follow although it assumes you are capable of moving from section to section (Proper of Saints to Mass proper to Commons to specific prayers). It also has an outstanding compilation of prayers for all occasions with many of our heritage prayers from the great saints including the Memorare and Anima Christi. I like having both weekly cycles and the three Sunday cycles in one Missal. It looks and feels special and it should make you feel good & special also. Special for wanting to follow the Sacrifice in a personal way. Good because you can't help but look & feel good just having it in your possession. Don't let our "off-the-wall" priests & religious try to tell you that you should be watching & listening and that there is no need for a Missal. It may be pricey for many budgets but its value is priceless.

For my money, this is the very finest Daily Missal out there. It has the full English and Latin texts of the Mass and the readings are all from the (official Catholic) New American Bible With Revised New Testament and Psalms. It is printed by the Midwest Theological Forum, which is the U.S. publishing house of Opus Dei, and its publisher is Fr. James Socias, a priest of the Opus Dei Prelature. As you would expect from anything by Opus Dei, it has a wealth of additional prayers, litanies, didactic, and devotional material, to help people work toward achieving sainthood in their daily lives. The Guide for a Good Confession has an absolutely superb long and short Examination of Conscience for use when preparing for ones confession, followed by the Rite of Reconciliation itself. There are excerpts from the Liturgy of the Hours, an illustrated Stations of the Cross, and many other devotions. This fine Missal is a real treasure which is worth every penny! I recommend it highly.

Very nice and portable missal with modern leather covers and gold on the side pages

This is a lovely Daily Roman Missal. It’s beautifully bound in leather with 4 ribbons & cream pages. It was all the daily & Sunday Mass readings for year A, B, & C. This is my first daily missal so it took some time to figure out exactly where I should be, but watching a few YouTube videos fixed that. My only criticism is this is the American version. However, the readings are the same so it’s not such a big deal. I’d definitely recommend this Daily Roman Missal.
