Works exactly as described
Product works exactly as promised. Very good value for the moneyAs many customers have commented, all the chain is covered in a heavy oil and you need plenty of rags and diaposable gloves to use it. Its also a very good idea to wear some old clothes when using it.My application does not put anything like the stated max load on the hoist, so I cannot comment on it's longevity under heavy load use.

Very good product at a great price
Very good product at a great price. I put this to work right out of the box to lift the walls for a tree house I'm building for the grand kids...the hoist operated perfectly right out of the box. We lifted the walls by pulling the chain with one hand...beautiful piece of engineering! Note it comes pre-greased so wear gloves and be ready for a large spot of oil on the floor from the spinning of the chain as you hoist...if you don't want the oil on the floor pull the chains through a towel to remove the excess oil. Works flawlessly!

I used it to lift a heavy duty lumber rack off my double cab truck
It uses a black chain they ship covered in oil to keep it from rusting.I would have gave it 5 stars if it were silver chain instead. It works well once you untwist the chain.Good value for the money, and very strong.

i love this hoist
I had 2 eighty gallon hot water tanks in my attic that I decided needed to be upgraded to a tankless heater since they had gone out on me a couple of times. I was not waiting for a leak and any water damage so I hired a moving crew to remove the tanks. One of them was easily 300+ pounds due to sediment and the other was probably about 100-150 lbs (this is after I drained them both for over 24 hours). I knew that I couldn't do it myself and was not going to risk injury and damage to the house so I hired movers. The movers that came were worthless (smaller than me and had no idea what to do). After they showed continued incompetency (by backing into my basketball goal- another story altogether), I fired them and looked up on youtube how to remove a hot water tank from your attic. Lo and behold a smallish women did it with a hoist tied to the rafters. I went to home depot and lowes to buy a hoist and they were more expensive and had none in the store. Enter trusty Amazon. I looked it up here and got it the next day with prime. I was able to lift each tank individually and swing them over the attic door/ladder and lower them carefully to the first floor - all by myself. Used my dolly to take them out for curbside trash pickup.By using this hoist, I was able to do the job myself, saving about $250 in labor and removal fees.

This Thing Works
I needed to put some new joists in our rv garage so I could raise the height of the door. The new fifth wheels we are considering are much taller than when we built the garage 15 years ago. To do this I need to cut out the 16 foot 2X10's that are in place and replace them with the same thing but about a foot higher. I need to do this by myself so the only thing I could come up with is a chain hoist. This one was cheap enough and had a 15 foot capacity so I ordered it. It made it possible for me to do the replacements so far without asking for a single assist from anyone. I attach the old joists to the chain with a strap, cut them loose and lower them to the floor. I then attach the new ones and raise them into place. I have watched closely for any loose bolts on the mechanism but so far no issues. I only have 2 joists left to replace so I'm thinking all is good. If I was using it everyday I would probably look for a higher quality hoist but this one is great for my purposes.

Not so good as a winch
Works fine for vertical lifting, although I should have opted for a shorter lift range. Has a real tough time horizontally, like using it as a winch. Chain gets tangled or twisted so it won't feed to through the reel.

Perfect for lifting
It works exactly the way it should. Two things that are important: 1. make sure you have a way to connect/hang it (I used a small choker strap) 2. It's chain will only lift something 15' (So say you are hanging it 16' off the ground, you will have to lift your item up in order to connect it).

Horrible Company
Neiko has horrible customer service if you ever have an issue and I have not been impressed with this product. Every time I try to lower anything with my hoist, instead of slowly lowering it lowers like 3 inches at a time fast. I would not recommend this product or company.

Works extremely well. Smooth chain action. Seems very well put together so far. The chain housing appears to be a little tinny, but is tough and resilient. Someone was a little over-zealous with the chain oil....suggest wearing gloves when it comes out of the box.

Works well and is a reasonable price
Used primarily to move items such as snow tires and lawnmower to overhead storage in garage.

Smooth operation
Works great. Use it on a rolling gantry and does the job nicely. Smooth operation . One thing I didn’t like was the chains came with grease on them which is a small thing and cleaned up easily.

Cheap product, not that well built, very very dirty with oil.
It's cheap but gets the job done, have not used it a lot. It is extremely dirty with black oil to prevent rust and will blacken what ever you are touching it with.It was a lost cost product and that's what I got but it's doing what I needed it to do
