Great bargain on a disposer!
Our twelve-year old Insinkerator Badger finally failed after great service. The metal grinder casing corroded through and started leaking (through the motor housing!) and into the sink base.We found the Waste King unit on Amazon and considered it to be a great value. It appears to be a somewhat generic unit, as it's identical in appearance to several other brands. That said, it's well-buiilt, installs easily, and runs well and quietly. Two quibbles:1. The online description does not tell you the unit comes with a cord and plug. If your original unit was hard-wired into your house, you'll have to do a little extra work - either install a receptacle under your sink, disconnect the cord from the unit (it uses screws inside the motor housing, but it takes some digging to get at), or do what I did - cut the plug off and install a junction box and cover under the sink. DO THESE MODIFICATIONS ONLY IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WORKING WITH ELECTRICITY. If you have ANY doubts, hire an electrician.2. The description says the unit is "sound insulated" - I've seen on similar units a foam insert between the grinder / motor casing and the gray plastic shell. Ours did not have this. The unit comes with a generic strainer requiring plumber's putty, as though for a new installation. If you're replacing a failed existing unit (especially an Insinkerator), I recommend you get the adapter sold here and in many home improvement stores. This will save you a lot of time and some mess. The adapter works well and is easy to change out, though you have to be careful about how the parts go together - they're all black plastic and rubber and look symmetrical, but they aren't. Compare the rubber rings to the metal rings and you'll see the shoulders and flanges to match up.If you use the Insinkerator adapter, be careful to make sure all three lugs are engaged before you twist the unit and strainer together - it IS possible to engage only two, and you won't have a good seal.Connecting the unit to existing piping is easy, though you'll want to check the configuration of the waste piping before you start. You may need some extra piping and fittings, especially if you have a two-bowl sink. A 90 degree elbow comes with the unit - this will form the down-leg of the trap. If you have a two-bowl sink, you may not need this part, but MAKE SURE you keep the two-bolt flange that attaches the pipe to the unit; it's the ONLY way to do this. You can buy straight sections of pipe that have the correct flange for this connection. The dishwasher connection is a knock-out plug in the side of the unit. If you need it, be sure to knock it out before you install the unit. Also be sure the inlet nozzle matches your dishwasher hose. You can buy a generic adapter to match them if needed. The unit is reasonably quiet and thanks to its high speed motor is very efficient - the other reviews suggests it's a little tank, so enjoy it!HIGLY RECOMMENDED at the price.

Impressive product and customer support
Like several of the other reviewers, I purchased this to replace a Badger 5. I found the Waste King product impressive on a number of areas. The warranty is five years and it includes in-home service, which is a rarity nowadays. Some of the larger Waste King models (1 Hp) have a lifetime in-home warranty. I looked at them, but decided to go with the ½ HP version since I only use the disposal for plate scrapings (bones go in the trash and vegetable peelings go into the compost pile) and didn't want to buy way more disposal than I needed.Waste King offers two mounting options - the traditional three bolt method, and the EZ method. This model is the EZ method and, true to its name, is really easy! Very clear instructions come with the unit, plus there are videos on the Waste King site to walk you through the process. If you have even the most basic of tool skills and can follow instructions, this is a job you can handle. The other feature I liked about the EZ mount option was that the rubber guard (the piece of rubber at the top of the opening that you push scraps through) is removable for cleaning. It is not removable in the 3 bolt mounting option and, considering how horrible the one looked in my Badger after a few years, I wanted something that I could take out and clean (or replace). But, all the parts in the 3 bolt option are stainless steel, whereas there are plastic parts in the EZ mount option. The plastic seems sturdy enough, so I hope it will last a long time.I'm especially pleased to report that Waste King has outstanding customer service. I emailed them some questions before I ordered, and they replied in a few hours, and answered all my questions in full (versus just those canned boilerplate responses you sometimes get from companies). After it arrived I had a question regarding if the sink flange (the part you see when you look into the sink) was plastic or stainless. So I called them and got an answer very quickly (it is stainless). Very pleasant phone call, and minimal (3 or 4 min) hold time.Product works great. It runs faster (higher RPM) than the Badger, so it grinds quicker. Not as ultra quiet as the really high end ones, but less noise than the Badger. It has stainless cutters which should outlast the galvanized ones in the Badger by a long time.Works well, easy to install, great warranty, excellent customer support, great price. What more could you want!

Works for me.
I have had this for months now. Easy to install, good instructions, and low noise. The smaller throat opening keeps bigger things from easily dropping into the grinder. No issues or problems.
