Great FrSky Quality as Expected

I know this receiver is a little old school. It works well and has good range. I actually own two of these receivers now. I had received one with my first Taranis transmitter purchase and I've worn the crap out of that receiver but it still works well. I bought this FrSky X8R Receiver for my newest TBS Discovery drone build and it has been working very nicely for me. It's easy to bind and get setup even if you're just using PPM or SBUS connection with it. It's easy to set Failsafe on it and it gets really good range for me. I would recommend this receiver if your building a larger sized drone in like the 450-500 class.

Good but may need firmware flash for older formals.

Not directly compatible out of the box with all modes it claims. DFT/DJT/DHT/DHT-U . I think mine was DJT. You must reflash to use with the older firmware. You accomplish this using the receiver and a four to four pin flat servo cable. If it doesn't bind to transmitter, try googling the firmware flash and try that.

Great receiver with telemetry

After many years, I finally updated my old Dynam Skytrainer from the FlySky radio to Taranis, and because it has a separate Gyro (from HobbyEagle), I used this receiver for that plane.Super easy installation; this receiver is not the smallest unit but I had plenty of space in that airplane. 90 degrees separation on the antennas (one vertical and one horizontal) ensures great reception, and I have RSSI alerts on the transmitter. The old plane is flying better than ever now with no more radio signal problems!

Won't pair with X9D+

I've spent hours changing the firmwares of my transmitter and the receiver and no luck. The manual/instructions are a 'lackbuster' at FrSky (fry sky), and thankfully one other Horus user recommended to use the 2018 version (can be found under old versions link). Finally, it worked. All I'm using is FrySky receiver and transmitter, all same brand and same 'supported' items according to the manuals that came with the Tx and the Rx-still had to change firmware many times to make it work. I am not going to invest in FrSky anymore.

easy to use receiver

This was really easy to bind with my FrSky Taranis Plus transmitter. It is also pretty small for what you get out of it. I ended up using my 3D printer to print out an antenna holder as they were not the easiest to figure out how to mount. I currently have it paired-up with a Pixhawk flight controller on a Y6B multicopter. I'll get another one of these when I build my next copter, and maybe for a rover I have planned as well.

Will work but firmware updated may be required

I paired this with a ACCST Taranis -Plus. My radio is from around 2016 or 2018 and not updated with the 2.0 software. I had to use the 2018 reciever firmware from FrSky website (X8R_FCC_180322). It took a while for me to figure it out but the radio settings.Internal receiverMode is XJT D16 (D8 did not work and stumped me for a long time)Channel Range CH1-16
