small but powerful
i bought two of these fans because i knew how hard it would be to find a good, inexpensive fan in the middle of summer ~ should any of my old fans go out. i had never heard of the brand name AEROSPEED, and was a little hesitant about buying one. but, I didn't want anything fancy and the price was right. when they arrived, i checked them out right away to make sure i was going to keep them. The first thing I noticed was how VERY SMALL these were! MUCH SMALLER THAN MY OLD FANS. The second thing I noticed was that the motor was covered, on the back grill/cover, by a circle slightly larger than the motor itself. I didn't remember seeing this in the description, altho I DID look at about 1000 fans that day. Moisture getting into the motor has always been the killer of my fans! I always have them in my windows & they always end up rusting out in a few years. I'm hoping this cover will help with that problem... So, I placed the fan in the window, turned it on med. & walked away from it until I could no longer feel airflow. I have to say that this fan has REALLY STRONG AIRFLOW! I AM IMPRESSED! I haven't actually used them yet, to see how they work under hot conditions. THAT will be the test. But, so far, I'm impressed with this fan.

A piece of junk!
First off, the support feet inserts that came with the fan to keep it stable that are to be inserted could not be inserted with out really FORCING them into the frame. Also, they could not be inserted fully. Because of the flawed design of the feet inserts (they did not look like they were made for this fan frame).Secondly, the fan speed on/off switch was defective in that I had to play with the switch to get the fan to run on 'medium'. The fan did run well on the 'high' setting and the 'low' setting (the only good thing that I could say for this piece of junk). In summary, if I had not purchased this fan with my free Amazon card points, I would get an RMA to return this piece of crapback where it came from (China?). Even if I wanted to return the fan, it would not now fit into the shipping box.Because of the non-removable feet inserts.travers1948

Gets the job done.
What everyone else says about the fan I basically concur with. I bought the fan to mitigate my neighbor's intense cooking odors...the fan does this on high speed in pretty good and quick fashion. The medium and low speeds are good to keep the air circulating. The one questionable thing about the fan are the pegs they include to stabilize the fan. They are absolutely necessary if you run the fan on anything higher than low speed. The fan will fall over without them. However, the pegs are of a poor design. They do not "click" into place. They slide in place and if you move the fan, they fall out and you have to keep reinserting them. I've taped mine to the bottom of the fan. Problem solved. All-in-all the fan at the price I got it for, 19.99, was a good deal and I am relatively happy with mine.

Liked it a lot but...
I bought this fan a week ago after buying (and returning) some window fans that didn't work out so well. I chose this fan specifically because it's supposed to be one of the quietest box fans you can buy and was recommended on a lot of "best" lists. It IS pretty quiet for a box fan. It's loud on High (as loud as my sleep machine Marpac Dohm Classic White Noise Sound Machine, White, so it's perfect if you like white noise) but you could still easily carry on a conversation or watch TV with it on medium or low. It also generated a strong enough airflow to satisfy me and it's stable enough to use on the ground even without the feet (carpet or otherwise).I really loved it until I woke up in the middle of the night to the smell of burning plastic. I didn't see it smoking or anything but it was pretty alarming so I turned it off. I tested it out again the next day (I was hoping I had imagined the smell or something) but after a few hours it started making weird rattling noises and smelling like burned plastic again so I had to return it.I don't see anyone complaining about anything similar happening to them with this fan though (other stuff maybe, but not fire hazards or burning plastic), so I definitely got one of the lemons. I still liked this fan so much that I would have gotten another of the same model to replace it if I had been able to find it being sold anywhere nearby. No such luck though. This occurred during a bad heatwave so I had to run out and buy one of those horrible $16 Lasko box fans (this is seriously the ONLY box fan I could find being sold nearby and I think it must be one of the worst ones). I kinda wish I'd just waited a few days and ordered another Aerospeed. The Lasko blows a tad stronger on high but it's way less stable (can't use it without the feet which I will no doubt lose within days) and it's incredibly loud! It sounds like a freaking lawnmower at every speed--:(

The fan that keeps on giving relief!
I know you may think that this is just a fan. But I don't think of this fan -- * MY FAN * -- like that. Each day, when I get home beaten down by the heat and humidity, the first thing I want to do is get close to this slim-caged fan and turn it on. For even at its lowest speed setting, it can deliver a cool, refreshing breeze that revivifies me in a matter of minutes. It's lightweight, and quiet, and has been the fan that keeps on giving me relief all throughout this summer of record heat waves. Whenever I'm home on a sizzling hot summer day, we have been inseparable!(Note: this fan comes with "feet" that need to be manually attached to the base of the cage to keep it from falling over. I have not had "stability" problems with this fan, as some reviewers had reported. In reading some of those reviews, however, I got the impression that some reviewers might have simply forgotten that this fan comes with "feet" that need to be attached if the fan is to be used as a standing fan rather than a window unit, as some reviewers had initially done so.)
