Rhythm has always been one of my greatest weaknesses as a wind player. I always had difficulty reading rhythms and keeping track of the beat during odd syncopated rhythms.This book helps me with both reading new rhythms and keeping track of the beat while I perform the rhythm. Each exercise has two aspects: tapping/humming the rhythm and keeping track of the pulse. Over the years, I had developed a bad habit of never counting more than maybe 2 beats at a time (i.e. I would count 1 and 2 and 1 2 and 1 and and 1) regardless of the meter. This book has been forcing me to keep count of the pulse of the actual time signature (i.e. 1 and 2 and 3 4). This really keeps me keep track of where I am in a song as I read through it.For me, the best part of this book is I can do the exercises without even needing to get out my sax. I already have a pretty full practice routine so being able to fit this in without having to cut anything else out is a huge bonus.This book is a fantastic value and I would highly recommend it to anyone struggling with rhythm.

As a person who didn’t learn to read music until adulthood, rhythm is that hardest thing for me read fluently. This book is great for adult self teaching.

I love this book. It will train you in some of the more difficult time signatures like 5/4 and 7/8 and will improve your rhythm in general. It consists of a series of exercises that work on different time signatures and rhythmic notations. Great for any musician who wants to work on your ability to hear rhythm and read rhythm

It progresses quickly - for many beginners too quickly - to difficult material that is more worthy of upper-level training. I use it as a supplement for a three-semester course, along with a melodic and harmonic reader.

Are you an ear training/aural skills professor? This book is the best way to torture your students (for their own good). Force students to perform mixed complex meter in front of the whole class for maximum shame. 🤣

While this subject is difficult and a bit boring, it is absolutely essential to learn proper rhythm and counting in order to play a musical instrument in a group. The book helps with this task.

I use this for everyday rhythm training for my students. It's helpful. It starts from very simple rhythm, and gradually get to very difficult rhythm. I do this in my lessons every day, and kids also have one for their daily practice.

My university voice teacher recommended I purchase this book to enhance my internal rhythm and little did I know that I would also be using it to teach my own children about rhythm and notation as well. It’s a good book for beginners and those needing to enhance their rhythmic skills.

Das Büchlein ist klar strukturiert. Jedes der 12 Kapitel beschäftigt sich mit einem rhythmischen „Problem“. Die Kapitel sind vom Einfachen zum Schwierigen ansteigend angeordnet.Im jeweiligen Kapitel werden nach Vorstellung der rhythmischen „basic pattern“ entsprechende Übungen dargestellt. Die Notation erfolgt im Violinschlüssel. Hierbei werden durchgehend nur die 3 Töne des F-Dur-Akkord verwendet. Der Grundschlag ist mit den Tönen F u. A notiert, darüber in C die rhythmischen Figuren.Für den Klavierspieler heisst das, -je nach Interesse, Vorliebe und Können- gleichzeitig gutes Krafttraining für den kleinen Finger, oder rasche muskuläre und zentrale Ermüdung durch fehlende Abwechslung. Dafür ½ Punkt Abzug.Leider fehlen zur Selbskontrolle die heute übliche und hier m.E. auch wichtige Audio-CD, so dass man ohne Supervision nicht wirklich erkennen kann ob man die Übungen richtig macht. Dafür 1 Punkt Abzug.

Great for anyone needing practice with rhythmic training. Practice through sight reading and physical movements (tapping legs/stomping) to keeps time. Violin teacher recommended it for myself and has come in great use.
