Yes it can be used as such if you have the battery powered nest doorbell camera. You just have to go to the Google home app and set it as such. I have one in my basement and it works great

I believe so. My chime did not work and Google notifies me when the doorbell is rung.

If you mean factory reset, you do not need to remove to do this. With the 2nd generation, you switch the mic button to off and then hold your finger on the center of the speaker (where the lights are) until you hear a chime that it has reset.
