Concepts of Modern Art: From Fauvism to Postmodernism (World of Art)

A Solid Backdrop to Knowledge of Modern Art
Great book series, better than your average introduction books and definitely more rich in content. A bit disappointing to have images in black and white - I assume for publishing reasons. Although longer than the previous books I read out of this art history collection, great variety in authors of each chapter and lovely re-interpretations of the introduction through time as the meanings of the words concepts and modern art become ever fluent.Perhaps not the best book for in depth reading on specific eras and artists, but a great place to start sourcing or gain general understanding of movements and artists that intertwined within them.

Just as Described
This was a used book and it was very cheap I am actually surprised at how good of a deal I received on such a well kept book! There was some writing inside but it was actually helpful and lightly done in pencil. Absolutely no complaints :)

Filled to the brim
If it's modern art, then this book probably has it. Get your fill reading this text. It's good for students, instruction or if you're just interested in modern art.

If it's not for the price, I would give 1 star
ABOUT THE BOOK ITSELF1. The book I received is not the newest edition AT ALL2. The book is extremely old, printed before 20003. The quality is just acceptable.4. It bears strong odor, disgusting me when I flip the pages.ABOUT THE CONTENT1. I haven't read it yet, but I notice the pictures and texts are separate. Extremely inconvenient especially for an art book.2. This obsolete edition I received has 300 pages, definitely too long for students like me.Overall, I am not satisfied with it AT ALL.

It could be much better
This is not an easy book to write, because the modern art world has gone wild with multiple radical approaches to what used to be a relatively easy-to-understand subject. Thus I have no objection to a multply-authored text. And it is expected that some of the chapters will be better than others. OK.My objection is to the pictures. They are all in BLACK AND WHITE! This, in a field where the impact of color is so important! Almost as bad is the fact that all the pictures are bunched at the back, so, each time a picture is cited in the text, you have to go to the back to find this. And many are too small.I would have expected better from such an experienced art history publisher

Not that easy to read
This book gives you a dynamic look at the movements of the 20th century. Some of the entries are a bit lacking and stale. The transition between different writing styles proved unfavorable, but the book is useful as reference. I do not recamend it as an introduction to modern art. It focuses more on the events that shaped movements as opposed to the idealogy of them. If you are already familiar with modern art, this book will prove useful in building on a foundation of knowlage. I found "The 20th century Art Book" useful in reading this book. It helps compensate for the black and white pictures.

bought as recommended reading for my uni course
bought as recommended reading for my uni course. quite an interesting book, the pictures are in black and white though, i would suggest finding if there is a copy with a colour plates section as it saves you time looking the image up on the internet.
