All the figurines are at least 1.5 inches long and some are as long as 3 inches, so I don't think they will fit on a 1x1 block.

Nope, solid plastic. They're pretty small.

Q: Do these actually have a globe that spins and the educational facts just on the outside of tube?

No spinning globe, I didnt notice any educational facts on the tube but I also didnt check, it mustve been pretty small if it were there at all.
