Responsive Classroom The First Six Weeks of School

This book didn't have new ideas it was quite basic. Not the most necessary read but okay nevertheless.

The second edition of this book is arranged so much better than the first. The layout is easier to follow and the information is much more thorough, for example, song lyrics are included along with sample morning messages. I use this book a lot in my daily practice and recommend it highly to any educator that is interested in taking their teaching to the next level.

Even as a teacher with a lot of experience I appreciated the ideas that were new to me in this book when I started the school year this year. I found the routines outlined to be helpful settling my students back into the school year. I wish there was an option to buy only a primary or intermediate grade level of this book as there are many pages that don’t apply to my grade levels.

A fantastic book. I have been teaching for 26 years, off and on medical leave for the last four, and in real need of a way to try and cope with the increasing number of students with self-regulation issues and special needs. Reading this book in the summer has given me permission to take about 5 steps back and start the year very slowly, really working on building a strong sense of community. I look forward to implementing when I get my new kiddies on Friday.
