A Working Solo Artist's Dream Night After Night

After about 50 or so shows with the Wazinator Dropkick: so far, it's been worth every penny! I'd been searching for the solution to a lot of problems I've had with other foot drum products, including tone, EQ, durability, and ease of use (mainly the fact that a 'toe-tapping' type of stomp pedal will slowly slide away from me throughout the set, leaving me in some pretty strange positions by the end of a song!).As someone who plays approx 4-5 nights a week, about half of them in a solo or scaled-down band format, I look for something I can't break, sets up quickly, looks great onstage, and that some strange sound man that I've never worked with can make sound good. With other wooden/floor stomp pedals, I have to constantly explain the EQ that I want to sound like a kick drum. Ex: "bring the bass way up" (which they never do, they always just slightly turn it to the right), "turn the treble all the way down" (which heaven forbid, they listen to me). It's exhausting and kills a ton of time. Not with the Dropkick. I just give them the pedal and let the subs (and it's natural settings) do the work. A flat EQ with a slight adjustment, and we have a great sound (and a shorter soundcheck). Also, in the absence of a drum pedal that pushes back, there's a comfort to having your heel on a pedal, instead of tapping something elevated. There's a nice natural 'slide' I can manage with a boot heel, and my toe doesn't have to raise up so high, my ankle starts to tire. It just feels natural, and after a 3-4 hour gig, that's a blessing. Keep up the good work, Wazinator!

SOUNDS LIKE A KICK DRUM

I don't know how many of these I have built or tried to build only to have them sound like a piezo stuck on a board and ended up just throwing them away. Now true I could have hired a drummer for the price. But I would have had to take a chance they would know the songs, not over play, keep time hopefully, show up sober, or not wreck my gig in general. Hey I can all that myself. If you just EQ it flat it is not going to set the world on fire. But take off the highs and adjust the bottom down, add some reverb not a lot, you got a kick drum.I keep it in the background volume wise. You can lightly tap for ballads, or get on it for some rock. The thing is don't over play it. If you normally tap your foot while you play its a natural. Also you can heel and toe tap on it.Of course if you stand and play it won't be your weapon of choice. It is very well designed and built. Comfortable to play.

Failed after only a few hours use, but mfg support was great

UPDATE: I emailed Wazinator (in Australia) on a Saturday afternoon (from CA, USA) about the failure and received a response within a few hours - stating they would send me a repair kit. Monday afternoon the kit was on my doorstep! Talk about great support. I'm upgrading the review to 4 stars....though I'd give their service 10 stars if I could. The early failure still concerns me, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt at the moment. If it fails again I'll adjust the review accordingly.Initially I was quite pleased with the Wazinator. It appeared well built, and with a little compression and EQ, sounded quite good. I practiced with it a few times, including a short rehearsal with a bandmate, but with far less than 5 hours use, it is now broken. Tapping the pedal now produces a "da dump" sound, not a single hit, but a hit and a bounce, totally useless and unacceptable for something in this price point.I have contacted the manufacture and will update my review accordingly. But given they are in Australia and I'm in the US, it looks like a return to Amazon will be the only realistic option. I have lost confidence I can depend on this for a kickdrum alternative in a live performance.BTW, I should add I only used the Wazinator bare foot, was seated, and I'm about 160 lbs, so it's not like a 300 lb dude with boots was jumping on it.

Fantastic kick drum replacement 🙌

I used to drag a kick drum out from our drummers set whenever he couldn’t play so our acoustic guitar player could add some extra kick to the rhythm. It was such a pain but I was skeptical of trying out a stomp box as I felt nothing could compete with a standard kick. I stand absolutely corrected, this thing is fantastic. It provides such a full and warm kick sound and is sensitive enough to give plenty of room for dynamic playing. I appreciate how sturdy and solidIt was built so you can really stomp on it with no guilt. I will say it’s sensitive enough that it requires much little energy compared to a standard kick drum so you can play it to no end. Super solid stuff. 👍10/10
