The pods themselves are mostly intact, and I appreciate that because it's easier to fish them out of a dish if needed.My main use for the star anise has been in making hotpot at home. It's become a bit of a tradition in my household, especially during colder months. Adding a couple of these star anise pods into the broth brings a subtle, yet distinct, licorice-like flavor that complements the meats and veggies beautifully. It's not overpowering at all, which is great because my family prefers more balanced flavors.

I thought I could make tea out of this, but it turns out it's more of a garnish. Add it to already-made hot drinks like tea or hot apple cider to add some extra spice flavor.

Most affordable option for whole star anise. Good quantity comes in the 4oz bag. The bag is resealable, you can always place it glass container for spice display. They are big as a thumb size, making them easy to find when you are cooking.I use it for rice & simmer pot, it gives a nice aromatic smell.
