Can the top (cage section) come off/is it optional during assembly for use later on as a more conventional step stool?

Yes ... with a bit of disassembly and reassembly. However, this is only rated at 150 lbs and for kids under adult supervision. An adult weighing 150 lbs would be more abusive on a conventional step stool.

Hi can you give me the dimensions of the box it arrives in?

I can’t give measurements of the box since I no longer have it but it was roughly 16x10x2 all in inches. Smaller, manageable size

Can 2 kids stand on it together?

No it’s not big enough for two but I’m really happy with it
