This is the kind rice I grew up eating: short-grained, flavorful, aromatic, and so good you want to eat it all in one sitting. I remember when we couldn’t get it anymore, it was quite an adjustment! Low-country Carolina folk eat rice in place of mashed potatoes, or always used to. When you put that Thanksgiving goblet gravy on top it’s on a macaroni pie-level of comfort food!I could have cried when I smelt it cooking, it brought back so many memories of holiday dinners at my grandmother’s house.No more! It’s a small bag, and more expensive than what you can get in the grocery store these days, but I don’t care. Can’t wait to make Charleston red rice with this!

One would think it would be easy to find Carolina rice in South Carolina, but no.Found this rice...grown not two hours from where I type...on Amazon.Worked perfectly for my New Year's Hoppin' John and collards recipe. Has a nuttier flavor than straight white rice. Highly recommend.

The Carolina Gold rice middlins are flavorful and the broken grains have a very nice texture. I like that this rice cooks quickly compared to other rices, but you do have to keep an eye on it to avoid overcooking If you use a rice cooker as I have. There are many articles on the proper way to cook this rice and I will try them, but so far I have used my cuisinart rice cooker (rice cookers have not been recommended by the articles I’ve read). The cooker clicks from cook to warm in around 10 minutes but the rice is not done. I leave it on warm and keep an eye on progress through the glass lid. In my opinion, when the rice is still steamy but not under water or dry on top, it is ready and the texture and flavor are amazing. The package also refers to a company web site with some good recipes, googling Carolina gold rice middlins will give you even more.

Most of the time I buy this rice from a shop in Charleston when I'm in town. This time I bought it on Amazon. The rice I bought in Charleston was very clean. The water was clear anytime I washed the rice before making it. For some reason. The rice sent from Amazon is a lot more dirty. I have to rinse the rice quite a while for the water to run clear before I cook it. Rice can be dangerous, high levels of arsenic. Rinse your rice!

The flavor and consistency of this product are really excellent. It would work well with any dish calling for rice. The only hesitation is the cost is a little bit higher than most other rices, but is worth it for those special meals.

Extra creamy!

The rice was awful. I cooked it according to package directions. It was not done . Had to cook it for longer amount of time. Still didn’t taste good. Got out a different pot and started all over. Got same bad results. I’ve had Carolina gold rice before, in a different brand, and it was excellent. This brand is not good,

A must try for rice lovers. If you have never tried Carolina/ Charleston Gold rice, you need to! A new staple in my pantry.
