There is an zipper for a compartment on the outside. That is not big enough to hold a racquet, but it can hold stuff like grips and probably a couple cans of balls. Within that side pocket there is a small pocket (with a zipper) that can be used for a wallet and keys. In the two racquet compartments there aren't any small pockets to hold items. There aren't any pockets on the outside of the bag (small or for shoes). Hope this helps!
