According to the dimensions listed, the masher base is 2.13 x 1 inches. I use mine to mash stuff in my 6-ounce ramekins every day, so I would imagine you should be able to mash in your small cereal bowl just fine.

Will this work with strawberries?

I've never tried it with strawberries, but assuming the berries are ripe enough, I think it would work. It's a sturdy little thing. But keep in mind that it is a small masher, so if you want to do a lot of berries, I'd recommend a bigger one for the job.

Does the mini masher rust?

I haven't noticed any rust. I think I've only used it once though. I keep it in my kitchen chuck box that I use for car travel. It's a little hard on the hand though because it lacks the soft rubber grip that is in the description.
